It was two guys just going for the puck when the London player leaned into Beck (typical strategy )which caused Beck to counter ( typical as well) and his feet were already behind the knights player. Beck then used his upper body to push the Knights player back. It was an evolving play and happened fast and in totality it was a penalty to Beck but not a pure slewfoot with intention and I agree no ongoing suspension is warranted

I just read that the plane was so full yesterday they had to wait for two hours in Toronto before taking off. There wasn't a single place left and with the heavy equipment it was too much. The charter was organized by the CHL.

That is funny but scary -overweight planes don’t do well.

Glad someone independent looked at it. The Petes haven't got any favours suspension wise since Stillman took out Braden Hache... Not that I would ever suggest Conrad Hache being the director of officiating is a huge conflict of interest.
I agree with the ruling. The Memorial Cup is not an OHL event. It is a CHL event. Therefore, I agree that he should be able to play all games and if nothing else, the second game of the suspension should be tacked onto the beginning of next season.

That being said, I am not a fan of the NHL disciplinary committee taking over this event. They showed their ineptitude back in 2011 when they crapped on the incidents vs Owen Sound Attack players Wilson and Hishon, their two best players. They were injured out of the tournament. The answer from the disciplinary committee was that they did not want to suspend these players out of the tournament because they didn’t want to take the Memorial Cup experience away from them. Yeah. But it was OK for those players to take that experience away from Wilson and Hishon.

There may be additional weight on the flight coming back to Peterborough with the Memorial Cup hopefully coming back with the Petes.

Rumour has it that during those 2 hours, enough passengers evacuated their bowels, and that got the weight down enough for a take-off. ;):naughty:

It may not be an OHL event, but it is a Hockey Canada event, to which both belong. This is a freebie that elite players get all of the time. The OHL site has indicated that he will serve one game at the start of next year, if he's there.

I don’t think it’s reserved to elite players. Any player would get this consideration.

In 30 years of administering minor hockey, I've only seen it done for AAA and above, and usually U16 and up only.

When you said elite players, I thought you meant elite OHL players as opposed to non elite OHL players.

Really dumb question, how does the memorial cup work? Best record after 3 games wins? Or top 2 face off for the final?

The four teams will play each other once in a round-robin, totaling three games to determine seeding for the playoffs. The No. 1 seed advances straight to the championship game while the Nos. 2 and No. 3 teams will play in a semifinal.
