Congratulations to the Peterborough Petes on their 10th OHL Championship victory. The Petes overcame all the obstacles from the mid-season struggles after the trade deadline, calls to fire Rob Wilson, beating the league's top two teams Ottawa and North Bay in the OHL playoffs, Shawn Spearing's jaw injury, and Owen Beck's slewfoot suspension to beat the London Knights in the final to win the J. Ross Robertson trophy as OHL Champions to advance to the Memorial Cup. I look forward to seeing how the Petes fare against the Quebec Remparts, Seattle Thunderbirds, and host Kamloops Blazers at the Memorial Cup next week.

Congrats on winning the OHL Cup!!
The Petes beat the #1 Seed.
They beat the #2 Seed.
And beat the #3 Seed.
That's winning a lot of Road Games. How Many?
Not just Simpson in the net, but a good overall team game.
Good Luck in KamLoops in the Mem Cup.
You'll surprise them all. ;)

My sister texted me to see if I was going to the city party for the team today -I said “nah, we drove all night -just pulling into Manitoba en route to KAMLOOPS”

She believed me for about 5 seconds !!!

We actually drove all night to get to Moncton in 2006 -we were younger then

But seriously-anyone making the trip out to BC ?

Just not that PP.
I know they were 0 for 3 on the PP in game 6 but they looked much better with 8 SOG in one PP alone.
Maybe the PP is heating up just in time.

Here are the two units they went with in Game 6:

PP1 (5 forwards)
Lockhart at the point
Robertson, Othmann, Hayes, Avon

PP2 (2 Dmen)
White, Mayer
Dubois, Stillman, Lefevbre

I imagine Beck will slide into the Dubois spot on PP2
At one point hey kept Othmann out for PP2 and he played the point with White while Mayer took Dubois' spot up front
Zanetti played a little at the point as part of PP2 for a bit and looked OK.

The Mem Cup is a short crap-shoot tournament and the Petes have the toughest schedule IMO.
No Purdeller, no Melee and Spearing won't be near 100% if he even plays a regular shift at all.
These team has shown great character in overcoming the challenges they have faced this far and they are stronger as a result.

More adversity you say?
Yes please and thank you very much for this opportunity.

Have seen conflicting reports/ideas regarding the Owen Beck suspension. Some are saying that his suspension will not be applied at the Memorial Cup and instead directed towards the beginning of the 2023-2024 season while others are saying that he will miss the first game of the Memorial Cup. Really have no clue at this point and the OHL website or reputable accounts have mentioned anything yet.

I doubt it'll be tacked on to next season. The precedent has been set, if anything it'll be reduced to the one game already served

Seattle
Seattle fan here in Peace. Wanted to know more about Tucker Robertson (Drafted by my Kraken). What do you guys think his biggest attribute is? Watched Game six against London (Mainly because both teams had a Kraken prospect). Exciting stuff, that goal that he had the assist on was great (Finishing his check, then with the pass for the goal)

I’d say his two way play + compete level. He plays a very complete game at both ends of the rink and works his ass off every night.

Tucker Robertson doesn't possess great speed but his hockey IQ is off the charts.
He is dominant on faceoffs winning 58.5% in the regular season and 62.1% in the playoffs.
Robertson is a jack of all trades - good on the PP, PK, and in general makes the players he plays with better.
It's not a stat that I've seen records for but I can't think of anyone else who wins more puck battles along the boards than him.
He is relentless and never takes a shift off.
His floor will be a solid 3rd/4th line guy at the next level IMO

In the empty arena lobby, under the silent gaze of banners hung for Scotty Bowman and Roger Neilson, Mike Oke removed his glasses to wipe away his tears. He spoke haltingly, with his thoughts interrupted by emotional echoes from the night before.

He had not slept, or only just barely. As general manager of the Peterborough Petes, he was working by 6 a.m., sorting through the logistical challenge of transporting a junior hockey team across Canada with about 48 hours remaining until takeoff.

His phone showed more messages than he could possibly handle. A few players were in the parking lot, smiling and joking under a cloudless holiday Monday sky. The reason for all of it — the emotion and the fatigue and the delirium — was the giant trophy resting on a table outside Oke’s office.

The Petes were Ontario Hockey League champions. It was their first league title since 2006, a span of 17 years in which the storied franchise endured some of its worst stretches on the ice, and faced a series of existential questions that threatened its very future in Central Ontario.

Peterborough closed out its OHL championship series in six games, with a 2-1 win at home against the London Knights on Sunday. The team will fly west for the Memorial Cup in Kamloops, B.C., where it will try to win the Canadian championship for only the second time in its long history.

“Unbelievable,” said Oke. “Excited for the city, coaches, players, the whole organization.”

He wiped his eyes again and tried to clear his throat. The Petes had a long flight ahead of them, but the general manager was thinking about the long road just to get back to this point.

“People say it’s cyclical — they say, ‘Well, you should win every three or four years,’” he said. “Well, it’s not possible. It’s just not.”

Based in Peterborough since 1956, the Petes are the oldest continuously operating franchise in the OHL and were, for many years, the unquestioned model franchise. The team was a production facility for the NHL, and it made three trips to the Memorial Cup through the 1970s.

In addition to Bowman and Neilson, the Petes were also where star players such as Steve Yzerman and Chris Pronger honed their trade. Peterborough alumni became so numerous within the NHL, they were known colloquially as “The Peterborough Mafia.”

Owen Beck’s suspension will NOT carry over to the Memorial Cup and he will be eligible For game 1! As per Mike Oke, the NHL department of players safety reviews any infractions related to the Memorial Cup and they deemed Beck eligible to play.

Good news. And as expected by precedent. Even as a LK fan, glad he is eligible. ( And as a Habs fan even better he gets the full meal deal experience )

It makes perfect sense to me. I saw it as a borderline slew foot. It was more of them getting tangled up than his intending to slew foot him. The NHL are using their standard. Based on that they deemed it not serious enough to suspend him for one game in the Memorial Cup. He will though, have to serve the remaining game next season in the OHL.
