Rumor: Peter Chiarelli is not done?

That would be an underpay for Subban if anything. Defenseman are valuable. Unless you're Kane or Ovechkin, wingers are not valuable.

Apparently he's only worth a declining asset with an enormous signing bonus' and contracted until 41 years old

Laraque and a few others reported it..
"In his report, Friedman goes over a lot of things that were already known, such as the Habs’ ask from the Oilers, a package of players that included Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton’s fourth pick in the 2016 draft, a defenceman like Oscar Klefbom or Darnell Nurse, and another asset. This massive ask was discussed on various Oilers radio shows at the time of the draft."

Chiarelli was willing to trade assets like Nurse, 1st etc but drew the line at Draisaitl as per Edm media (Rishaug)..

Wow...That would have been a much better trade for both teams

Overpayment by Oilers - not surprised Chia declined it. With expansion looming, exempt players
are especially valuable these two offseasons.

If Chia can ship out RNH + or Eberle + now for a puck moving dman, I will officially be a believer in this team finally as early as next season

Still need a qb, puck moving type... hasn't really addressed that yet. I like Larsson but even Chia said he isn't that sexy dman that will put up points

not sure about that.
nurse and drai aren't a sure thing and we know what Subban is. not to mention Drai isn't an exempt player and would need to be protected (thanks again MacT).
I would have done drai, nurse, the 4th in a heartbeat for Subban on the draft floor but I think it was contingent on CBJ not picking PLD.

oh **** here we go

after that Hall trade were probably gonna have to give up Draisaitl+ for Barrie..

Really hope Chiarelli would be willing to trade McDavid straight up for Maatta. We'll even throw in Pouliot.

Not saying Chiarelli should be fired, but instant hot seat for sure.

MacT had know way of knowing the expansion/exemption rules when he kept Drai up. He made enough mistakes without making new ones up.

The Oilers fanbase is really dedicated. No matter what, they eventually rally around every decision and hail their glorious future. A couple days of complaining, then it's "yeah, this was a brilliant move!"

This season though they actually have legitimate cause for optimism. Everyone has been telling them that balance is better than just a buttload of elite talent up front and forgetting about everything else. They went ahead and got size and a lot of physical inclination in their top six (Lucic) and a steady, skilled defensive D man on the back end.

Even if you think the Lucic deal was too long or they'll regret it in a few years...So what? They're a better team now, and they're starting to roll the ball in the right direction. Gotta give these kids a taste of success and progression, and I think they'll get that this year.

No. For starters, that's too many defensemen. The Oilers only need one more.

Which would you sooner have Trouba or Enstrom. I would prefer to send Enstrom. Take Trouba off the deal. Or the Jets could take Klefbom back from the oilers for both.

Obviously, I really doubt the Oilers would be willing to give up Nugent-Hopkins or Eberle for anything based around Enstrom.

Can't argue with any of this.

Trouba and Enstrom hold way different value to Oilers..Trouba is just what the Oilers need and Enstrom would probably be considered a cap dump in the deal you proposed.

I strongly disagree. Draisaitl showed last year that he can be a very capable second line center (just needs to work on conditioning to keep it up all year), the 4th OV turned into one of the best players in the draft (as much as you can say that two weeks after the draft), Oscar Klefbom showed last year that his absence in the lineup was more detrimental to the team than Connor McDavid - ask Oilers fans, most were in agreement - he's got top pairing potential and is already a top 4 D - AND something else? I'm glad Chiarelli declined that. I'd move Hall for Larsson every day of the week before that package for Subban.

I already answered that exact post earlier.

Clearly, any team would rather have Trouba.

Is anyone else concerned about having Connor and Drai as #1 & #2 centers?

I understand wanting to add a guy like Barrie, but that is a really young center core if part of that trade is RNH.

If you think Enstrom would ever be a "cap dump", you've never watched him play.

He's a very good defenseman.

He was a very good Dman but isnt that great anymore. klefbom and Sekera would be ahead of him on the left side already.. Davidson and Nurse would better long term..
There is a reason why a quality LD is the biggest need in WPG.. Its the regression of Enstrom.
