There is no bigger of an (insert expletive) move

Some people are cheering for it and are jerks about it, no doubt.

But to expect folks not to discuss happenings around the NHL is silly and sometimes it feels like people are tone-policing even that.

My guess is Arizona instantly becomes one of the talked about places for expansion:

Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, and then a fourth team to bring the league to 36.

I'm not someone who particularly likes Quebec City as an expansion option, but Quebec City being the 4th team in this situation makes a boatload of sense.

Have Quebec City go in the Atlantic and move Detroit to the Metro. Put Houston in the Central and Phoenix in the West.

My thoughts exactly. My guess is #4 would be Toronto2 with a Bell/Rogers MLSE divorce to make it happen

Why would you move Detroit to the Metro? They are the furthest West team in the East, and the bulk of the Metro teams are on the east coast (NJ, NYI, NYR, Washington, and Philly). Just move the 2 Florida teams into the Metro, and move Pitt/Columbus into the Atlantic, and then rename the dumb divisions.

Uh, do you know how far Detroit is from those teams? It's like a 1 hour flight.

A direct flight from Detroit to Philly/NYC is 90 minutes. Detroit is substantially further away from Ottawa and Montreal than the DC/Philly/NYC teams.

You're twisting a logical discussion into an emotional discussion. No one wants the Coyotes to move because it will screw over the fans. People want the Coyotes to move because it's an unviable situation with keeping them there, with playing in a college arena indefinitely until they get a new arena that hasn't been figured out for the last decade.
This doesn't affect anyone's team in any way. So wanting the team to move is wanting the fans to lose their team.

It may be different if keeping the Coyotes in Phoenix hurt their teams somehow, but it doesn't. Them playing in a small arena doesn't hurt anyone's favorite team, but it doesn't. So why want them to move?

And a 4 hour drive from Toronto and a shorter flight. It's closer to Toronto and Buffalo than any of the teams you mentioned.

Okay? Detroit is closer in total to the teams in the Metro than it is to teams in the Atlantic.

Detroit would move to the Metro and the Atlantic would get Quebec City. I don't see how that's controversial whatsoever.

Detroit is not further from Ottawa than it is from DC, Philly or NYC teams. It's roughly the same distance. If anything, Columbus and Pitt should be moved into the current Atlantic, and Boston/Montreal should be put in the Metro if we are actually looking at what makes sense geographically (while ignoring the Florida teams which are an inconvenience to everyone).

I’ve seen some comments about who would cheer for a fan base to lose there team. What about fan bases that had lost there team without getting the same effort Bettman has done to keep the coyotes around?

What about other fan bases who have wanted an NHL team but continue to sit and wait while Arizona keeps getting opportunity after opportunity?

No team has gotten this fair of treatment Arizona is getting. They should have pulled the plug on this experiment a while ago.

This would be interesting and with the unrest at MLSE becoming more likely.

I've always found it strange that the "Hockey Mecca" only has one NHL team. It's unlike every other sport.
What is the unrest? Hadn't heard about that but it's not surprising that the two major competing telecoms can't work together for long

the unfortunate truth is that the Coyotes time was running short, regardless if they were good in the Mullett.
