When your starter is injury prone your backup can’t be bad AND also injury prone. Not having a reliable backup has knocked us out of the playoffs two years in a row
Running it back with the exact same two goalies after our last two playoffs was simply lazy and inexcusable.

But, he did the same lazy **** in Philly when he re-signed Elliott and Neuvirth.

Canucks Sportnet are talking about blown leads being a problem for Vancouver, lol....I mean, Pittsburgh has far more.
I don't know about that. The Canucks have ten games where they blew leads of at least two goals and lost the game so far this season.

+camera angle to start the game, although I don't know why it needs to be human controlled at that distance, have it set to 3 positions for quick zooming, attack zone / neutral zone / defending zone... that way it won't be slow to zoom in for far end action.
- after the first goal back to the view where you get to see only action zoomed on the puck.

game... hmmm... barely finished off a team they _should've_ had a less difficult game.
Needed the two points, but not very promising or convincing.

Malkin’s been very good this year. Trochek hasn’t.
We should all be VERY grateful Geno re-signed with us at the witching hour instead of testing the market to spite Hextall+FSG. Trocheck would have been a sad sack of disappointment in Pittsburgh as our 2C.

Pretty sure we were saying this exact same thing when the resigning happened @Pens x . And look at it now. Oh well, i'm honestly just stoked that Tokarski is actually up with the big club and got a shot. Looking forward to seeing him start a game against WIN or CAR this weekend.

so i'm waiting to see that we do a long term extension for Jarry before the end of the season, don't make any adustments to our goal tending. Our big 3 actually wake up and play pretty well in the playoffs and we get bounced once again because our goalies can't stop a beach ball. Tokaraski had himself a good game but he's not a solution for what ails us, though he is better then Louis . Not sure what options will open up for us but if we think we are making the playoffs we need to address this.

I know Hextall is due for another brainfart akin to the early Carter extension, but Please God no. When it comes to Jarry, really hope we can see the same level of restraint we saw with the Geno Malkin negotiation. If an extension is announced before the postseason, we are f***ing doomed.

You know what's good about playing Tokarski? It's SOMEONE ELSE.

Are you really comparing Carter/Malkin workings to Jarry? Jarry "is" one of the top goalies in the league. They would be foolish to try such negotiations as compared to two guys on their final contracts aging out.

Goodness gracious, Ekman-Larsson and Myers made Dumo look like a decent D-man. Still, nice to see some offense from the Pens, especially Geno who needed a game like this badly. Rakell got a lucky bouncy, he was due one too. Both of our PP goals were a bit lucky and the Canucks PK is hilariously bad but still, we actually utilised Geno's one-timer for the first time in ages and moved a lot on the PP. Baby steps.
Still too many dumb mistakes in defense and not killing off the game earlier despite dominating but a nice comeback, let's see if we can beat any decent team any time soon.
we got lucky bounces on PP but we had zero luck on multiple great looks rebounds and scrambles in front of the goalie...so it evens out...
The worst part is now thing that becomes more of a habit: to protect lead they all got back and just flip and ice the puck giving all the momentum to the opponent and relying on our prayers that the puck won't go in. Can't believ that is by design, it must be that their confidence is at all time low...

Ya...no matter all of the fans opinions I am 95% certain Hextall signs Jarry to a 6.5-7M multi year deal.

If you don't think so you're just sticking your head in the sand. We have not prospects of replacing him and he's in the prime years.

So like him or hate him, he's the Penguins goalie.

Don't think they have the ambition to go out and find another option than Jarry, tbh. I expect him to just be handed a contract by default. I don't think Jarry's anything more than a middle of the pack guy who happens to get hot from time to time, but I'd be pretty close to astonished if they let him walk and then went about grabbing some other middle of the pack UFA for probably close to the same cost. Given between the two, I think GMs would almost always pick sticking with the guy they're familiar with than try and find someone else via FA. For every Ullmark, there's a dozen Grubauers and Campbells who just stink up the place.

What's going on with the prospect goalies anyway? I thought there was some hope in replacing Jarry internally.

Not in the playoffs. Signing him to a big contract before he shows up at least once in the playoffs would be... very much par for the course, alas.

Not sure what you meant with the quotations in your post, but by no means is it crazy to wait until he has more than 2 career playoff wins to give him a huge extension. Any "savings" we make by signing him early will be negated by another 1st round playoff flop.

If he flops again in the playoffs, Pens gain heavy leverage in the event we extend him. If he carries us to SCF, I am happy to give him a big raise. Sorry dude, but he hasn't done anything to earn a 7x7 contract. Make him earn the contract.

Goalies fizzle out so fast in this day and age, this is a huge contract and I don't want to sign a massive 6.8x8 year contract for some measly 200k savings.

Also, the fact you call Geno "some guy on an aging contract" is insulting dude. Get a grip.

Lindberg has been decent in WBS, but not as good as Tokarski. Blomqvist is having a bit of a down year but his games played has greatly increased. Murashov is ridiculous in the Russian Juniors. And Gauthier is having a bit of a rough first year as a pro. But that could be because Wheeling isn't so great.

Hextall lacks ambition on many fronts.

I think Hextall is going to go dumpster diving and look for a reclamation project like Grubauer or, heaven forbid, Bob on a retained trade or after they are bought out.

Lol…

I don’t care for Madden, but his take on Hextall is spot on.

“GM Ron Hextall created that problem by signing Jeff Carter and Kasperi Kapanen to stupid contracts.

So Hextall needs to fix it. That’s the GM’s job.

It’s also the GM’s job to make the team better. But Hextall has been the Penguins’ GM for nearly two years, and his imprint on the franchise is absolutely minimal. Somebody should hold a mirror in front of Hextall’s face to make sure he’s still breathing.

Hextall has done little besides maintain the status quo, and that’s led to what seems a slow and steady decline.

It’s also made his job easy. Maybe that’s the goal.

Hextall is known for patience. Perhaps we’ve confused patience with an aversion to work.

When Fenway Sports Group bought the Penguins near the end of 2021, Hextall told FSG he couldn’t put his plan on paper because it was in his head. Big red flag.

Hextall’s predecessor, Jim Rutherford, never let things get stale. Not all his moves worked, but at least he made moves. Personalities differ, but Rutherford seemed much more invested.

Hextall seems like he’s just cashing a check.”

100% agree

What slow and steady decline we are in the same position we have been every year since 2018 with Sullivan.

I don't even understand how anyone can be so constraint about a goalie who's seen a whopping 8 games in the playoffs and so defensive about him being there.

Generally there's a long track record to have that kind of ire.

2020 - 1 game
2021 - 6 games
2022 - 1 game

So nobody wants to give him the chance.

Edit: Salary isn't solely attached to playoff success.
