If this team is going to make a move I'd rather save their bullets for larger targets than Garland. Not that he's a bad player. But I'm getting a little tired of gunning for depth and tweeners instead of difference makers. If that just isn't a reality then make small tweaks or sell at the TDL and focus on the offseason to do so.
If they do bring in any more tweeners, I hope they at least bring some size and physicality. No more undersized, somewhat skilled wingers.

Yes... good distinction to make. I'd actually be kinda stoked about a nasty middle six guy that could make the opposition look behind them with concern on the forecheck and maybe run a few of these bastard goaltenders as opposed to the other way around. Playing nice hasn't gotten us much for quite a while.

When you are sustaining injuries from constant abuse but winning... that's an acceptable tradeoff. When you are sustaining injuries from constant abuse and also losing then what are you even doing?

Yes, we’re back to the “we need more hitz & size!! That will stop Wilson. Crosby will never get hurt again.”
The perfect combination to win in 1999.

No. I just want some variance on the roster. Running the exact same archetype up and down the lineup for the sake of ease of use hasn't worked in forever.

The Cup teams still had an element of physicality up front with guys like Hornqvist and Kunitz. Who do they have like that now? Archibald's about the only 1 and he's 170lbs soaking wet.

Chasing size for the sake of size never turns out well. You get Ryan Reaves. Teams that have players with size and talent rarely move on from them. Our best bet is to hope Poulin turns out. There’s nothing to be gained by adding size if the talent doesn’t come with it.

I'm not sure why you'd automatically equate adding size/physicality with the idea people want Eric Godard 2.0 brought in to play 4 minutes a night and fight.

Having a guy like Marcus Foligno in the bottom six instead of Danton Heinen, for instance, is an example of bringing in size/physicality. Not sure why you assume it means people are all for trading Jason Zucker for Curtis Gabriel.

The turn the other cheek mentality doesn’t work, and hasn’t worked for years. You don’t need a goober out there, but when someone concusses Crosby or injures Rakell in the playoffs, maybe someone on the Pens could do more than hug the opposing player, pretending to be physical. Our power play is a joke - we can’t even make teams pay that way.

What about someone like Hertl?

We don't have enough assets to address multiple needs, so I'd be very reticent to get a Garland.

At this point, the Top 6 questions are Zucker's health and Rust pulling his head out. I strangely have faith in Zucker's health and a lot of faith in Rust's head coming out.
Beyond that, we need to better on the PP. Does a Garland realistically improve it? No. We give the guys currently there (+bench options) another 2 months to figure it out and if it doesn't happen we have to find a specialist...or someone to tell the Big 3 to f***k off like Kessel did...as our top priority. It is also possible that we could need LD - and that could be the specialist. Or goaltending!

If Zucker came out like a dud I'd feel differently, but he's maybe our best player right now.

Garland's just more of what we've all been bitching about for years imo. Smaller, streaky player with a miserable contract. I was pretty f***in' bummed about all the Pens-Canucks talk because a lot of it seemed to revolve around Garland in reality as opposed to the guys we were talking about (JT Miller, Boeser).

I don't really think there's a deal to be made between the two teams. They're headed for a rebuild, and the Pens can't really afford any of the piece they have that are any good.

Yep. 5v5 40-50 pt guy if he plays in the top six, probably drops down to Kappy levels when Sullivan inevitably plays him 13 minutes a night while Rust gets 20.

Right but that just reiterates my point. The Wild aren’t trading Foligno. Any decent player with size teams are going to hold on to. Would love to have a guy like that in the bottom 6. I just don’t think that kind of player is available and when you reach on player’s because of their size it never turns out well.

Maybe I’m wrong and teams are willing to trade those players. My point was don’t chase size and hits.

I'd love some toughness but only if the guy can play.

And unfortunately as @eXile3 said teams that have those guys don't tend to move them.

I think you could potentially get Greenway from Minnesota or Trenin from Nashville. Not sure what the cost would be, but I feel like those are two potentially pieces you could grab that fit what some posters are talking about.

Also Pulju is on the market. I bet you could get Fischer out of Arizona.

I'd love either of those guys.

Pulju would be an ideal Sullivan forward. He's a strong forechecker and good at everything but finishing. Is there a more Penguins player than that? lol
