I posted this in the GDT, but I wanted to bring it in here. I'm pretty much fully over Kapanen at this point and think they need to make changes to the 3rd line. This is definitely partially due to his play, but I also just don't really like the makeup of the 3rd line. I think there needs to be more of a defensive focus there and Heinen-Carter-Kapanen just doesn't have that.

I'd be really happy to see them move on from Kapanen and bring in a physical defensive RWer for that line. I don't know who exactly would fit that now, but a great example that jumps to mind is Jannik Hansen from about a decade ago. A speedy defensive winger who throws a bunch of hits and can give you a solid 30-40 points a year would be a great addition to the 3rd line.
How do you move on from $3.2 mil Kap? No team wants him at his dumbass contract.

1. Fire Hextall
2. Fire the coaching staff

We should start be firing the head coach before we make any trades IMO.

Unless it's to bring in Chychrun ;)
This is kind of my thought process as well. Otherwise, how do we even know what areas actually need addressing and how many of the current issues are due to the coach/usage by said coach?

We've overhauled our roster a few times now. Same result. Maybe it's time to address the constant first before we start moving key pieces out and hoping the new pieces are the answer.

Especially when you look at success of the players who don’t work here after a few years.

Sprong, Cole, Schultz, JJ, etc.

Sullivan taking a lot of hate but a lot of blame has to go to Hextall. A lot of players struggling are his additions or resigns. Petry, Kap, Carter have all stunk it up.

Serious question, when do we consider tanking? I’m hearing this draft is the best since 2015. Those top 3 guys are game changers and could help Sid/Geno right away.

You're gonna get some flack from this, but honestly, hoping for a 1990-draft situation where we go from being in the playoffs to bad enough for a decent 1st round pick isn't such a terrible idea. I don't think there's anyone even remotely close to Jagr-esque in the draft, but I feel like getting a higher pick is infinitely better than scraping into the postseason only to bow out in 6 games.

I don't think we'll be bad enough for that. We're an unmitigated disaster, but it's hard to see us staying this bad all season.

I think at worst we might miss the playoffs but not finish totally in the basement. So we might pick like....I dunno, 10th? 15th? I could see that. Top 5? Seems unlikely.

Yeah, I don't think it's super likely, just merely "possible". But it would be great if we could get a decent enough pick to snag someone who's able to come in immediately. Jagr-esque is obviously a pipe dream, given how the league is much better at scouting now and we're not dealing with the fall of the Iron Curtain.

That’s what it comes down. How bad are we going to be? Right now it looks pretty bad. I’m saying if we’re not doing better by the end of the month it might be time to forget they playoffs because they aren’t happening and start the tank.

I don’t know why more people arent criticizing Hextall. A lot of this falls on him, but sully is getting all of the hate here.

Are there still people out there that think Hextall is a good GM? There can’t be, right????

Conor Bedard isn't fixing this team lol. That squad also added a few HOFers between 89-90 and 90-91.

I don't think there's any way to start the tank. We aren't moving any of our best players I don't think. They literally just got re-signed. Would Hextall really move a Rust for example? I doubt it. A Guentzel? No way. If a tank happens it would have to be the team playing that badly. Don't think they'd get a lot of outside help there unless guys started getting injured.

Fixing it, no. But he'd sure be a nice add lol

High draft pick this year > bowing out first round IMO

That said, hard to see how a 18-19 year old moves the needle much next year, even with how good these top 4-5 guys in the draft are.

I will take a high draft pick if it turns into Heiskanen or Makar but not if it turns into Yakupov or cody glass or alex nylander or whatever lol

It’s supposedly a good draft year. The top 3 are legit stars but I’ve also heard that there will be good talent into the 2nd.

One thing is for sure, Hextall should not be moving picks.

Yeah, but we already have a few HHOFers. We're speed running 1990-1991 here, Jacob, get with the program!

I would package Carter, Kapanen, McGinn, and Dumo for one elite player (Jason Robertson OR Elis Pettersson). That would also clear up roster spots for prospects like Poulin, DOC, Puusy, and Smith but Hextall is a coward and won’t make the call. I hate this team

This is the most boneheaded thing I've read on HF in many years.

Sorry, you won't find a team that will trade a star player in exchange for four overpaid, underachieving players with a combined cap hit of over $13M.
