Just so we're super clear, I am in no way talking about Tarasenko as a rental. Until we hear otherwise, the idea a contender is going to trade away an alternate captain with 5 points in 2 games is loony tunes. It's not worth discussing. He could be there in UFA this summer, there's zero reason to expect him to be a rental.

Edit: even with Armstrong who's about the most aggressive GM for this sort of thing going

Pens don't need a forward here. they need to find a LD for Dumo who will eventually be found wanting as injuries have taken it's toll. Hextall needs to find a trade that works not only cap wise this year, but actually allows the Pens to have a good LD for the next few years.

It's pretty nice that the Penguins were able to sign DeSmith for under $2 million a year when worse guys are getting more money than that.

Vladar just signed for $2.2 million and his numbers are substantially worse than DeSmith's numbers.

How many offseasons and trade deadlines have come and gone with Tarasenko wanting out? Assuming that report is true in the first place, they've either reconciled or the Blues aren't looking to trade him. The one caveat I'd put on that is if there was a Laine-PLD type swap that is for players of roughly equal value, but the Pens don't have anyone to trade that would be anywhere close to equal to Tarasenko. Zucker or Kapanen aren't getting it done. So unless they fall out of the playoff hunt, I don't see a reasonable way for the Pens to get him.

If Bertuzzi becomes available, I'm only interested if he is a straight up addition that doesn't cost too much (i.e. adding Rakell last year) which likely means utilizing LTIR or it's Kapanen that is going out. If we're talking about Zucker out and someone else in, then I'd want it to be someone like Tarasenko, not another 45-50 point winger who had 1 standout season.
2-3 that I am aware of..............Tarasenko only has 1 year left so there is some opportunity there, especially if there was mgmt. issues in the past. I think the biggest question mark with the blues was were they going to keep him with the rumored "issues" and the major injury. He may have said he will finish out his contract and if the blues know he wants to look around he holds some cards with a NTC

I like Bertuzzi b/c he brings alot to this team that it seems to lack, some grit and good 2 way play with skill. And yes that's addition without subtraction

A true top 6 guy wouldn't hurt and gives the team a big edge as Zucker gets moved down where he is still useful. I agree it would be a luxury but what are we trying to do here? (win a cup with the final years)

A top 4 D would be ideal as a 1st paring would bump Dumo down and 2nd would get Petts out.

As it sits this season I am more concerned about Petts in the top 4 than I am Dumo

Hoglander is entering health scratch area. Gotta think we could pull him for POJ eventually… unless someone smarter gets to it first.
So was Garland, they have an extra forward and aren't winning games. I know its early but something will happen with that forward group

Vlad is a very good goalie. Loved what I have seen from him in Calgary. Happy he signed for 2 more years. Hes still very unknown around the league.

Best case scenario for this franchise is the vets staying healthy, having good seasons with the team struggling to make the playoffs. If they could trade several Vets, free cap in the offseason with some added luck in the draft, things could look a lot brighter for the future as early as next season.

Replace Tarasenko with Bertuzzi and I’m game.
Rather just go Tarasenko myself. Does he still want out of St.Louis? UFA would be the only way to get him.

I think Tank's big frustration in St. Louis is how his injury was handled or something related to that IIRC.

Since he's been healthy and bounced back to previous levels I sort of imagine things have largely been smoothed over. The time to get him was like two years ago. You know... when I was pounding the desk about it on here every day haha
Imagine if we had got him cheap at at 50% retained?

I think the Tarasenko issue was basically how his injuries/surgeries/rehab were handled, not necessarily that they wanted to get rid of him, but that he was unhappy with how all that shit went down and wanted to be dealt. Like BlindWilly said, I think that ship's sailed though and it's all water under the bridge now.

Nobody really wanted to trade for the guy considering his injury history, and St. Louis wasn't just gonna give him away for a song either, so it never happened. /shrug

I find our goaltending to be one interesting caveat of this team. Most fans of their teams tend to overrate their goalie IMO. Our fan base and fans of other teams underrate Jarry collectively. Honestly since his meltdown in the playoffs he's been stellar.

He was the sole reason we stayed in the playoffs last year and was #7 in GSAA last year. He's off to an incredibly solid start yet again this year small sample size but he's #2 in GSAA.

I just want him to be healthy for the playoffs. I have a lot of faith in his game. I still wish we'd have locked him up for under 6M...if he goes off this year his price tag will make it a more difficult decision. I love him at 3.5M up to 6M. I get nervous when goalies make more bc they are voodoo afterall.

Small sample size and all, but I had MAJOR reservations about the LD group (specifically Petts).

So far Petts has been really good. Unsure if that's individual improvement or if Petry is making his life easier.
Dumo hasn't fallen off yet.

POJ has his moments of being brain dead. I'm glad he's getting an extended look

Petry is about exactly what I anticipated but you know what...Rutta has far exceeded what I expected.

He's followed his own dump ins on a few occasions and looks really comfortable in the Ozone. He's way more well rounded than I thought.

I am so pumped having a guy this solid that's playing 18+ min as a 3RD...

When they broached contract terms with Jarry’s agent, he reportedly was asking closer to $7M per….I don’t remember where I heard that but apparently early contract talks were not going to get him as cheaply as the FO believed or we wanted here

Well then we're gonna be in an interesting spot. Cause I'm sure he'll be good enough this year to warrant 7M....and depending on our options we might be in a pickle.

Jarry is in a position to get f***ing paid. He and Nedeljkovic are the only UFA goalies with starting experience under the age of 30 and the only other one under 35 is Andersen.
