If Kane is being traded he's not returning a ton because he controls his own destiny. A 1st, Tippett equivalent and a small add is probably what he goes for.
With the cap that needs to go out it’s a major shakeup to the lines… you can’t drop Kane on top of this group without losing Zucker or Blueger+McGinn.

Not the biggest deal and upgrades talent… but definitely thins the forward group/bottom 6 out and you can’t really bring in more help because of how squeezed we’d be. On top of that 1st in a loaded draft + Poulin? Heavy price for the thin amount of assets the Pens have.

In a vacuum though idk how anyone argues against adding an all world guy like Kane.

Disagree a bit just due to the size of Kane's cap hit, will also need to pay a bit more for Chicago to retain in most realistic scenarios

Why the talk about Kane? I remember him acting like a baby last year when he was asked about the Pens success with their playoff streak.

Because there is only one puck and we know our coach is going to be playing Sid, Guentzel and Malkin above him.

If our only worries are Brock McGinn and the PK, we’ll be fine lol…

Shit man even I'M impressed at how much people are trying to desperately infer from three whole games!

I'm shocked one of his underlying worries isn't "they re-signed a HOF al-timer that can still play at a high level... and I'm STILL mad about it!"

...maybe that wasn't dude. I can't remember. Seems like it was all of 'em.

ESPN only pretends to give any kind of shit about hockey because they are contractually obligated to.

This is the network that didn't even have the sport accessible from their front page without going to a drop down where it could be found along with like X Games, horse racing and cricket for many years. They have the hoary old skeletons of Barry Melrose and Mark Messier on their panel telling us about how back in their day dekes and the forward pass were for hot doggers and communists FFS.
Not sure that’s ESPNs fault. The NHL just isn’t very marketable and that’s the NHL.

Despite how exciting it can be it doesn’t promote it’s stars, imagine if someone hit Brady with an elbow and took him out like Trouba did to Crosby? Imagine how interested people would be watching the NBA if LeBron Jones was getting tackled fifteenth feet away from the ball.

I don’t blame ESPN for not prioritizing a sport that has pretty much committed itself to languish behind the MLS because the old guard doesn’t want to change.

I'll continue to not be fan of ESPN (though I recognize that it's a good gig for the NHL overall) but this is a very good point. Like I said further up... the NHL does a piss-poor job of selling itself.

It even goes back to a lot of the commentators they hire. A lot of them were either journeymen who had to play a grinding game to stick around or were players who played with a physical edge (ie. Bieksa, Bissonette, Tocchet, Roenick, etc.). These guys applaud the stuff Trouba does.

Maybe have more players like Paul Kariya or any number of skilled guys who probably would champion getting rid of the dirty stuff and the intermission shows might focus more on the skill and ability rather than the headhunters.

Oh absolutely. It's sad that it has to be the case and people can't just think for themselves but the commentary AROUND the game (which again is already populated and run by a bunch of regressive dinosaurs) contributes heavily to how people feel about things. Like... when I was young and stupid I used to think Ulf was super cool for kneecapping motherf***ers and ruining careers. And why wouldn't I? People howled in delight for it... fans, coaches, talking heads, etc.

The league hasn't moved far beyond that point. And in fact actively represses things like the effects of concussions on players. Not to mention how they choose to run their department of player "safety." But the potential viewing audience they SAY they want to tap into... you know... the money... they HAVE moved on. Nobody wants to see the luminaries of the league taken down to some knuckle-dragger's level with a chop to the back of the neck. But for whatever reason it's enabled.

Like I made the point earlier about Melrose, Messier etc. Why are these guys trotted out in front of the viewing audience as ambassadors of the sport? They're Neanderthals.

But I mean... I know I'm kinda preaching to the choir, here.

At least when they branch out we get absolute bore factories like Leah Hextall and Cassie Campbell.

Hillary Knight rocked when she was on ESPN.

How much of that is also that most of the most influential retired "finesse" players aren't "Good Ol' Canadian Boys", and instead are Swedes, Finns, and Russians?

If the TV networks insist on panels made up entirely of Good Ol' Canadian Boys (and the occasional American), this is what they're gonna get.

TB is fine as far as 4Cs go, I just don't think our current focus for the 4th line is really doing much. Bluger's been a non-factor in the postseason for years too, which isn't really helping his case.

If we were done with the Sid and Geno era I wouldn't hesitate to re-sign him, but we realistically have only two more shots at doing something with the postseason so everyone who hasn't performed in the playoffs should be on notice, especially role players TB, Carter, and McGinn.
No one on the 4th line produced much in the playoffs. It's tighter in the playoffs for checking and the usage is already so brutal that they would never get that opportunity. I don't think that's a knock on Blueger at all. The fact that he's produced as much as he has with the hard defense zone starts, I think a lot of teams have scouted him to know he's capable of 3C. Around the expansion draft he was someone teams were looking at.

I like the TNT panel. ESPN’s is a complete bore though, idk who decided Messier and Chelios should be on intermission with each other.

Really liked whoever the lady was that was on the TSN intermission of the Habs game Monday too. Yandle and her were good together.

They gain 5+ mil immediately once Yandle’s
off the books next summer.

Still got only 10.5m to spend after filling 15 roster spots, with a blueline that smells of farts. They are fine but if they want to strengthen they probably need to move some forwards.

Tbh Florida are a team where I could imagine relieving someone them of a useful player on the cheap if the rise is only 1m, but think they'll be able to dodge that if it's 4m.
