Also, the Carter deal was pretty good at the time but turned out to be a mistake with hindsight.

Carter absolutely lit it up from the moment he got here through securing that contract. He helped keep us afloat in the early part of the season with Sid frequently out of the lineup.

His dropoff occurred afterwards.

And also, as always, two wrongs don't make a right when it comes to Carter & Malkin. "You made a mistake so go ahead and make another one!" is childish.

In this case it's not hindsight. This core, if your intent is to keep them together moving forward, needs to be surrounded by youth.

The Carter trade made no sense from that starting point. The extension, MID SEASON, was a friend doing another friend a solid. Hex should have been fired for this alone.

Read through the signing thread, you will see quite a few that knew at the time this would be a bad extension.

I do think a 3 year deal is perfectly fine. I'm not even sure Geno finishes *that* deal, let alone 4, to be brutally honest. I also think it doesn't matter much if it goes to 4 years, especially if it keeps the AAV down.

From the end of this summer onward, linking/referencing anything coming from Rossi, Yohe, Madden, etc. should result in a multi-day thread ban. It's all bullshit. You know, Sids contract was front loaded, right? IN terms of just dollars he could very well be right. I'm not sure though why that sort of thing matters all that much. But Sid made less as time has gone on. I think Sid got in excess of 12 mill for the first few years. But again, it really doesn't change the dymanics of him being signed or not.o

Malkin had the highest cap hit on the team and his total comp is going to come pretty close to Crosby by the end of the next contract, with the Pens or otherwise. Plus he had 2 years in the RSL/KHL so he and Crosby will end up very close in total career on-ice earnings.

I don't like Madden but this is worth hand-waving away. Geno got paid very handsomely for his deal, was great for 5/8 years and average-to-bad in 3/8 years. Which just so happen to be 3/4 of the last 4 years. Not worth woe-is-me'ing about.

Sid's salary was over $9 million the past few years after being over $12 million to start. It finally takes a dive down to $3 million beginning this year. So Sid has made more despite having the lower cap hit the last few years.

As for Trocheck, I don't think he's good enough offensively. Yeah, he's better defensively, but you still need to score goals and he's a 0.5 point per game player compared to Geno being a career 1 point per game player (including last year).

Trocheck is a complementary player. Malkin is a play driver.

Letang's issue has never been his physical strength, what he has in physique, he has the opposite in hockey IQ.

The one thing about Malkin blokes tend to skip over is that he prioritizes the team over his own body, that's just the beast and character that Malkin is and a lot of blokes here do not deserve to ever cheer his name or wear anything of his without that understanding, f***ing walnuts.

He decided to play through his knee injury last year thinking his team would go deep, then had to go through a lengthy surgery and recovery that he didn't like because he couldn't train and be ready...FOR THE TEAM.

Even on 1 f***ing leg, he put up what, 4 or 5pts in 4 games that year?

All the dark shit that is about to happen to this team when Malkin is gone this summer because of FSG and other shitheels, this franchise will have earned for the rest of its existence.

Okay, $29M more when Geno's next contract is going to be in the vicinity of $20-$25M. Plus he broke into the league at 20 instead of 18. That is 2 more years making higher money instead of an ELC.

They will have roughly the same earnings through the next 3 years. Sid may get another couple contracts on the back end though.

5 on 5 Geno isn't, not anywhere close to where he was. And once again he misses a TON of games. Players can't help you IF they aren't playing. I'd rather have Trocheck for say 75 games a year than an older Geno for say 55 or 60 games a year.
