Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

they need to get rid of jarry sign flury to mentor the young kids and get gadru and hometown miller to get a better second line maybe trade marino and a pick hextall has to do something it's been how many 1rd exits in a row????

I see you are familiar with these fine spec-o-mines as well!

The first round exits are all Malkin and Letangs fault, though. And the fact that they didn't have Fleury... which you covered.

He's French, so we should be more concerned about the migration pattern of local frogs. Keeping Tyler Kennedy over Jagr is about the same as pulling an offer for Letang/Geno to make sure E-Rod doesn't walk, though. So there's that.
If anyone could pull it off, it’s sleepy.

Ahhhhh Ray Shero.

I liked how Penguins fans tried to convince themselves that it was actually Jagr being ridiculous for not agreeing to play for league minimum.

I remember Jagr citing the handedness of the key players on the Pens' PP as the main reason he didn't sign here. Which is a bit of ridiculousness, but also shows how much Jaromir Jagr thinks about details above even your typical NHL coach and GM.

What he really wanted to say was "like hell I'm gonna play for that moron coach" but even he has more tact.

The in Shero we trust crowd was insufferable.

Shero did some good stuff. But once I realized his entire strategy was "Crosby and Malkin play Superman so I can collect a bunch of American defensemen" I was done.

I may just say "f*** it yolo" and do Kapanen for Puljujarvi if it wouldn't cost anything else on top of Kapanen to get him. Especially if Puljujarvi would sign for less than $3 million.

Dude... no, just no.

Shero’s path from the beginning to the cup was legendary. The trajectory he took with Bylsma and the first round draft screw ups after the fact really tarnished things - like, the bad outweighed the good. The Bylsma/Shero era and the stubbornness probably wasted a good cup run or two. That era itself was wholly responsible for the Pens never becoming a Lightning like dynasty. I realize that we still got three cups (they have 2 recent)… not minimizing. I just think some different decisions could have led to pure dominance and consistency. We had most of the crucial pieces.

Still, he deserves a lot of credit for pulling this team out of the shitter, and making some ballsy trades to go for it.

Not that DeBrusk is a bad player but if you guys want a real "holy shit at least the Pens didn't do THAT" moment check out Boston's three first rounders in a row in 2015 and then the three picks that happened immediately afterward.

what exactly has Ron Hextall brought to this franchise, other than signing a friend to a contract who was not deserving in regards to his age.

I'm about to have a BM

#STATUS QUO

Hextall running the deadline before FA. I feel it my guy probably got ADHD and struggles with timeliness.

FSG: "Hey Ron we are a week away from Free Agency. Any update on Geno and Letang. Really happy to see that tough negotiating to nail down Casey."

I'm curious for what these "few details" that Hextall and Letang are working through at this point. You usually don't see contracts being held as "super close" for as long as Letang and the Penguins have allegedly been "super close", and I'm not really sure what movement really needs to happen at this point to get a deal done.

You'd think that if they were that close, they'd just say "screw it, let's get it done". It's probably just Hextall leveraging all of the time he has to get as good of a deal for the team as he can, but it's still odd to basically come out and say "yeah we're super close, it will be done in a day or two".

Granted there really isn't much that isn't rank speculation to go on but I don't think I've heard one single solitary update re: Malkin's status that I could call "positive" or really even "somewhat promising if I squint hard for silver linings."
