Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

You people are hysterical.

Chris Kreider ran CDS and tore his muscle(s) which required surgery. You want to criticize him for being hurt, then provide solutions for him. What could he have done differently?

CDS is meh at best and I personally think he sucks. But piling on him for getting hurt, especially this last time around, is absurd.

....uh, no?

Malkin is called injury prone because he has a 15 year sample size of missing a boatload of games. DeSmith getting injured twice right at the end of the season doesn't mean he's injury prone.

He may be injury prone going forward because core muscle injuries are easy to reaggravate and reinjure, but DeSmith being hurt in the last 2 years doesn't mean he's injury prone.
How many games has Malkin missed in the playoffs?

this thing about Letang taking a 3 year deal makes zero sense. Three years means higher AAV, for a specimen like Tanger, who you know is not bad bet to play 4-5 more years and get him under lower AAV. And why would he take that unless its $9.5M for 3 years. That would mean buy buy Geno and buy buy any solid replacement at 2C. Thats crap. If Tanger takes 3x8 I would be really shocked

that’s what it sounds like, or even lower….but good news for us…I hope he took less with assurances the FO would come up on their offer to Geno…good guy…both these guys want to retire here…

Sometimes you cannot do anything about it, but he's missed the last two playoffs with injury for whatever the reason is. I honestly don't care about the reason, if you're not available you can't help the team. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL I would prefer we go in a different direction. Aren't you sick of our guys getting injured? Maybe change the formula a bit, do something else. Bring in new blood.

We can't provide solutions for him, only the goaltending coach can. This was an opportunity for Hextall to move on from him and we didn't. So if the same thing happens next year in May with CDS, the blame isn't on CDS or his PT/goalie coach, it's on Hextall.

Yes, we would have beat the Rags with pretty much any NHL caliber goalie in net. Spicy pork is an AHLer and looked the part. They still barely squeaked by with a giant liability in net.

Honestly, CDS may have even been enough to get passed the Canes. They had their own goalie injuries and just looked mediocre that round. We'd need Hasek circa 1997 to have a chance after that, though.
Pens would have lost to Colorado but I think they would beat Tampa. Sullivan has usually been able to shut down their ES offense

This team couldn't even close out a 3-1 series lead in which the stars aligned with Sid/Jake playing unbelievably great hockey and the Rangers' stars all, to a man, sleepwalking through 4 or 5 games of the series.

They weren't going anywhere regardless of whether they got by the Rangers or not, imo.

It's almost like our non-goalie players....... weren't the problem ????

Ok, so it's Halak or Holtby or whomever else in the exact same position. Merely swapping out the goalie on a play like that doesn't change things.

Mitch Korn himself has zero direction to give any goalie on how not to get a muscle torn by an opposing player crashing the crease.

If Sid would have played that game he sat out we probably would have won the cup this year but go ahead and blame it on Domingue

I mean the stars aligned and then both got elbowed in the head…

Domingue was the goalie who played while the team built the 3-1 lead. There were more problems than Domingue being an AHL backup. The PK was putrid in the final 4 games of the series. Nobody stepped up in Sid's absence. Sullivan's line combos didn't make sense.

It's lazy and convenient to pretend Domingue was the only problem. Just like it was lazy and convenient to pretend Jarry was the sole reason they lost to the Isles last year.

Lamo I put on maddens show for a minute and Tim Benz is talking about giving fleury 5-5.5.
Brainworms.

The other team is getting paid too, you know. I don't know what more you expect from an NHL team, the skaters absolutely dominated the opposition in the last two playoffs and the goalies singlehandedly lost it.

How long are the fans of this team going to make playoff excuses? Seriously. Every time I come on this board I have to look at my calendar to make sure we are actually in 2022, and that four teams have since won the Stanley Cup.

I think i am going to start a rumor twitter and just parrot friedman and Lebrun and when I get enough of a following start a website and make some semi passive income. I will market heavily towards 18-25 year old kids in Toronto

Good call. To establish trust my first tweet needs to go viral. I either need to prove I have legit sources or say something really dumb. I feel like Nathan Fielder rn

Since Pelle "Eklund" is a Flyer fan you gotta go with Pierre "Larouche."

Make Pittsburgh proud.

I mean... I'm not making excuses and want change, too. But I don't think telling their by-far best players to go kick rocks is the way to go regardless of what age they are.
