Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Geno is going to test free agency

I can def see it happening lol/ either way this needs to end soon

(baahahhahaha i google searched Sidney Crosby on a horse and this popped up)

If it's true that Geno's camp wanted 4 years and it's also true that the FO offered him a 4 year deal last night/this morning, and Geno still intends to walk, well, what can you do? So long.

Lotta ifs, but dude's really coming off as a prima donna here assuming all the reports are rooted somewhat in fact.

Also, Dreger isn't what he used to be. I'm not saying he's a complete clown, but he's no Bobby Mac or Seravalli, or hell, even Weekes recently.

Dreger is far less likely to pull shit out of his ass than the likes of Rossi or Madden. If he says something, I'm inclined to think he has a real source telling him that.

Might prove untrue. We can hope. But we're almost to FA anyways and Geno still isn't signed so...

Then all DD has to do is say "Oh things changed because ________" and we all believe every tweet moving forward

Malkin has also been pretty clearly negotiating through the media this whole time. We'll see if he actually follows through with this, or if this is just another case of that.

Regardless of whether Dreger is right or wrong, regardless of the outcome, this situation should have NEVER COME TO THIS.

Evgeni Malkin, the great, deserves way better than this.
No he doesn't and Geno is one of my favorite players of all time.

I imagine the AAV came down a bit more with the 4th year being offered.

But I also think Geno took serious offense to Hextall saying publicly they were focused on getting Letang first, then they'd shift to Geno. Because athletes can be petulant.

Name one team that has won a cup where their best players were in their mid 30's.. There' a huge difference between a generational talent at 28 than at 36
Jake Guentzel will be 28. If we get JT Miller, he'd be 29-30.

Realistically that would be 40% of our best players.

If and that's a big if Dreger is right and Geno goes UFA this could be a big middle finger to the management and he will sign with the Pens anyways. Sounds like two stubborn guys making their point.

This

I dont know what Hextall is doing. The Letang signing was good but he has not done anything else to put this team in a good position. It shouldnt be an 11th hour signing. They should already be done and working on trades and resigning Rakell.

This is the risk of trying to squeeze every dollar. If Malkin does go to the open market, his price will jump. Even if the offers are from the likes of Detroit and Buffalo, it'll increase the AAV.

I just don't believe that any of the existing free agents provide the offense that Malkin does ar the price he should have been coming in at.

If Hextall had offered $7 million over 3 years to start, we wouldn't be here. Or even if they had jumped to $6 million over 4 or something along those lines.

I have a sneaking suspicion they offered $5 or $5.5 million over four years and Geno said no. And frankly, I don't blame him.
