Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Bruins fan come in peace

Just not enough capsapce to bring back Heinen? Or his play wasn't great (overall)?

He was excellent. One of our best 5v5 P60 producers. Good on the walls. Good defensively. 3 goals in the playoffs.

Was very professional when getting played less and with worse linemates than he deserved.

Zero complaints. I will miss Heino 😔

Oh I agree. I think Mario and co thought it was finally time to rebuild when JR quit - Hextall fit that mold. However, the team played well after JR left, which changed the plans moving forward.

Instead of rebuilding, the team wanted a retool on the fly, something Hextall has never done in his limited time as the head GM.

You needed someone in between JR and Hextall - one is a gunslinger, oftentimes irresponsible while the other is overly patient, too passive to a fault. We went from one extreme to the other.

I don’t know if there’s anyone available out there that could do what the previous ownership wanted Hextall to do. It’s as close to an impossible ask as you’re going to find in hockey in my opinion.

To be competitive, this teams needs to dump some bad contracts and be aggressive in finding upgrades. That takes picks or prospects. To rebuild, you need picks and prospects. It was just a dumb mandate from ownership. Pick one approach and go all in with it.

Except Landy, Ranta and Nuke all have more skill than any wingers the Pens have had except for Jake…
And Sid Geno Bonino and Murray / Fleury were light years better than their Colorado counterparts. This ain’t a 1:1 roster discussion. Watch the two teams play. The speed, the forecheck, just dominating possession. It was very similar. Both teams just came at you in unending waves.

Heinen was only good when he played bottom 6.

Due to injuries and Sully line shuffling, he was promoted to top 6 a number of times and was a bust majority of the time.

Heinen is someone this team won't miss. There's a shitload of players like him out there.

It's not too ambitious (we just have to move out Zucker), but I would put Trochek behind all of Copp, Burakovsky and Kadri.
OH, so we'll just move out Zucker and that'' be an easy thing to do I guess? I don't see that as likely in the next 48 hrs, but hopefully they can. As fa r as Kadri goes he's gonna get north of 8 mil per, don'
t think we can go that high. I love Copp and Burakowsky, be thrilled with either of those two.

Hmmm thanks everyone. Seems kind of risky to QO him but whatever. I'm assuming they are close on a deal that makes sense. Kap the third liner is fine. Kap the second line experiment is less appealing to me.

I think you qualify him so you have a fallback option if you can't add 2 top-6 wingers for Malkin in free agency. You don't want to be stuck in a position where you didn't qualify Kapanen and also miss out on UFAs.
