I could see the talk with the Senators being about Petry. Right now, Ottawa's defense is this:

Chabot-Zub
Chychrun-XXXXXX
Sanderson-XXXXX
Brannstrom

They sound like they're not bringing Hamonic or Holden back, so they have 2 openings on RD. The thing that makes me doubt this though is that I firmly do not believe that Petry would allow a trade to Ottawa. Their defense is very young and not physical, which are 2 things Petry brings to the table.
I was actually thinking the same thing. Given the youth of the team, a veteran presence like Petry on the 2nd pairing could be good for them.

I was actually thinking Debrincat because part of me wonders what Dubas's thoughts are about Jake next off-season when he's likely due for a big raise. Could adding Smith and Debrincat make sending Jake out more palpable? Perhaps.

In this case, we could also take a dump from them as well.

Debrincat+Mattieu
for
Petry, Smith/Poulin, 1st 2024

Jake-Sid-Rakell
Debrincat-Malkin-Smith
Mattieu-Poehling-Rust
DOC-Carter-Nylander

Then

Debrincat-Crosby-Rakell
Smith-Malkin-Rust

or similar.

There will be no such talk about Petry going to Ottawa. Petry got out of Montreal due to family/border issues. He's not about to get back into that situation again. He won't go to Canada.

Would you trade Jake now in a deal around Hanifin? Then resign Zucker.

Your forwards are fine but the defense would be awful without Petry. Alot of holes

dont they have to be on waivers already?

I'm honestly not clear on this because typically a player needs 24 hours to clear waivers. And you can only buyout a player once they clear.

I think CapFriendly said that there's an exception within this buyout timeframe and players can go on waivers tomorrow while also being bought out tomorrow. As in no 24-hour requirement.

For example, Chicago just acquired Bailey and bought him out the same day.

For now I'm going to hope this is true haha... because after looking into it more I honestly am not at all sure and can't seem to find a definitive answer.

EDIT: just saw your edit... nice catch... didn't think of that. So tomorrow it is.

Honestly, no. Not unless there's another major forward piece coming back. Something like:

Jake+POJ/Smith for Hanifin+Lindholm (extension in place)

Jake is a 40g scorer who has familiarity and chemistry with Sid. Tough to overstate how important and vital that is for us.

Jake for Hanifin and Lindholm is absolutely absurd. Come on man.

Were the border restrictions COVID related? Canada has loosened those and it's back to how it was pre-pandemic.

You went out of your way to reply and didn't even quote the entire proposal. JFC. SMH.

And to be fair, we were discussing packages. I imagine in my proposal, additional picks and prospects on both side are needed. Certainly not Jake for Hanifin+Lindhol, you dolt.
