Majority of this board wanted all kids on this roster. Also didn’t want anyone brought in to score (tarasenko). A lot of people though sharagovich was going to be even better. He is brutal I was behind the goal when he came in on that mini breakaway in the second the shot missed the bet by 3 feet. Get legit scoring talent on this team get some veteran leadership. Take the c from nico he does not deserve it. No one gets a c until this team makes the playoffs
Who wanted all kids on the roster? I don't think that's even possible. And why would anyone not want to bring in a scorer? That's not true to say that, let's not pretend there was no legit concern about Tarasenko's shoulder. Other teams passed on him too.

And you really think it's a good idea to strip Nico of the "C"? You can make the argument we should have waited more to give it to him but now it's done it's done.

A bit of an exaggeration but it was definitely conventional wisdom on hfboards maybe 3-7 years ago that younger players are better, that players peak at 24 and the only reason they don’t put up the points older players do is because they don’t get the opportunities/usage they do.

Devils have been built as this imaginary but representative hfboards poster would recommend.

I don’t agree, we are weak all across the board. We have no proven offensive threats besides (maybe) Bratt. Our goaltender is looking weaker and more injury prone every season. Our organizational culture is trash.

But that’s all besides the point I was making anyway. Despite years and years of both quantity and supposedly quality draft picks, we have not even one of the kind of player I described.
I'm not making the case were on the cusp of being a cup contender, just that we're in the basement because we don't take care of our zone, if we did we might not be in this situation, teams have done more with less all the time because even if they didn't have the talent other teams have, they always had a strong defensive system to fall back on and be at least respectable.

When this team inevitably picks in the top five again this year I don’t want to see or hear a damn thing about how that prospect is gonna a great player. Prove it first or shut the hell up.

This franchise is the blind (questionable owners) leading the blind (newbie GM) leading the going blind (Ruff) leading the blind (unproven young players).

where does this put us fans?

the dummies with the buckets on our heads blind to the tyranny

….

and this deserves 1986 violent femmes off of the blind leading the naked album ….cover of t rex's children of the revolution (again)

So how many games we gonna lose in a row before people get fired? I hate that covid is going on because they will continue to use this as an excuse despite the entire league dealing with the exact same issue. Even the fans are making excuses for why we aren't good. Talk about a loser franchise. Until Fitz/Ruff take ownership of the situation & stop making excuses for this pathetic team we will always be bottom dwellers.

Because it sets up a narrative and expectations that are unrealistic.
I still fail to see the problem, if people want to give their projections and predictions on players, they should have every right to do so. And you have every right to push back against it if you disagree. It's one of the reasons HF exists.

Yes, the entire league is dealing with the exact same issue, which is why all of the games scheduled for today were played. Great insight.

You can see people on this board going a certain direction blaming the young players for everything now….they’re going down the list because they have no answers or solutions why were so bad, so just blame certain players

who constructed this roster? Who is the coach? Why is the PP so bad?

Where is the owners? Why aren't they screaming?

Well yeah they have a right. And I can’t stop anyone from doing so. So…lol

You have been nothing but doom and gloom for years so please don't act like you're just being realistic or objective.
So doom and gloom is automatically not realistic or objective no matter how awful something is?

That’s not how it works. Sorry.

And for what it’s worth I wasn’t always like that. It started as simply pushing back against the over the top baseless optimism with a bit more tempered expectations. It got this way because A) people wouldn’t accept even tempered expectations much less “doom and gloom” and B) it has in fact turned out to be doom and gloom.

Much better game than the last few we played. One stupid play by Kuokk, one stupid play by Hughes.

Might have been one of Smith's best games. Clearly he needs to play with a stable defensive defenseman to be successful. This reminded me of the Tennyson games early last season.

The 4th line was terrific all night.
Bastian on the PP.
Sharangovich might have had one of his better games.
Studenic was good.
All of the Dmen played well, another great night from Siegs.
Zacha had his best game in 10, which isn't saying much.

Still lots of giveaways and stupid passes. Hughes just terrible all night long.

Here's the example of a fan whose perfectly fine losing and will make excuses for why. Pity not only do we having a loser mentality going on in the entire organization but even the fans have adopted this losing mentality. We haven't been relevant in near 10 years.

You skated right over the point, which is that NOT every team is dealing with the same thing - a lot of teams have been helped out by being shut down. The Devils, despite having several players with COVID-19 and some other illness as well, have not been. They're on their 6th goalie so far this year. But you're right, these are excuses.

The Devils should be a lot better than they've shown so far. They should not, given what's gone on so far this year health-wise, be good.

The losing started well before the health issues. This current stretch of absolute suckville actually began while the team was as close to fully healthy as most teams will ever come.

I love how goal posts move every season. If only the perfect, injury and adversity free season would happen, then we would see what this team truly is capable of!

Just wanna quickly come in here and say good game. Honestly felt like the Devils deserved it. Does Hamilton play that well every game? If he does or somewhat close damn contract well spent.

I liked Hamilton before but the guy played well.

This doesn't sound right to me - Jack Hughes got injured Game 2 and they won Game 1. Hughes doesn't look at all like last year's Jack Hughes who was forcing turnovers all over the ice and pressing the play into the opposition's end. Whether that's injury or something else, I can't say for sure, but it sure would stand to reason that the injury and extended absence would have something to do with it.

If only I could just speak in generalities and not drill down into anything like you. Nah, Devils on their 6th goalie of the year, Geertsen playing D 3 games in a row because they can't make a callup from Utica because of COVID - all totally normal stuff that happens every year. Good teams just play through this stuff that definitely happens all the time.

No reason to get bent of shape for this team when they clearly don’t reciprocate the following back to their fans. Any serious franchise would’ve canned Recchi 10-15 games in when the powerplay was costing them points or fired Ruff off this stretch. I would just watch for the guys like Hughes, Hamliton, Bratt and Nico when he gets back. Anyone else probably shouldn’t have any close attachment with regards to the future.

Name the last team to fire an assistant coach midseason without firing anyone else. This is what serious franchises do, and the league is filled with serious franchises, so you must know.
