Eller is a 35 year old center with 1 assist in his last 10 games.

People are acting like we just traded a prime Jordan staal for a 3rd and 5th

So were Connor Hall, Ben Hanowski, Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Jonathan Filewich, and Drew Fata

Actually Pens have historically done pretty well with 3rds. Much better than 2nds.

Weren’t Murray and rust 3rd rounders

Rust was also a third rounder.

The Penguins were really bad in the early to mid 2010s about letting decent players on expiring contracts go for nothing.

It didn't really improve in the 2020s.

If they would have gotten these mid round picks more often, they might actually have a player or two contributing today.

A lesson they seemed to learn a bit TOO much from considering they largely went on to signing mediocre players for way too long instead of just letting them go.

That seller is slightly less than I was expecting but it’s still not bad. Was thinking he’d get a 2026 2nd from a contender, instead he got a 2027 3rd from a rebuilding team plus a 5th.

Think this also clears a spot for Poulin on the full time roster, which I like.
