It’s funny and/or depressing because I was jokingly saying after the press conference that Dubas was going to make another waivers move.

That mf really did it. They gotta be trolling at this point.

Now now... lets be fair, here.

...it was a trade that they could have had as a waiver move. That makes it even better!

Yesterday I predicted GMKD would claim Barre-Boulet from waivers.
Then the Nylander/Bemstrom trade happened.
Then the game happened and Phillips did his thing.
Now I don't know what's going to happen six minutes from now. Probably nothing.

The problem is that's not what Sullivan wants his 3C to be. There's zero point in even trying to acquire an offensive minded 3C because Sullivan will just use him like a defensive minded 3C.
I mean, Dubas and presumably the new assistant coaches can weigh in and they can build a roster that way even if it's not 100% what Sullivan wants. I have to think that at some point, Dubas, as the GM and President, would pull rank with Sullivan. We can talk about contract conspiracies all we want, but at the end of the day, Dubas oversees Sullivan.
If Warren Foegele is the roster player we get back in a Guentzel deal, I’m gonna start littering on a daily basis
He would be sent for cap reasons, not as the centerpiece. It would be the 1st, 3rd, and a prospect.
ABB clears.
Good. We didn't need any more waiver fodder.

ABB clears.

We're going to claim Harkins and Phillips.

White gets claimed.

But ABB clears.

Officially… I Go To Movies — Ian Malcolm: God creates dinosaurs. God destroys...

Next Year

First, fire Sullivan. Obviously.

1. Re-sign Jake as agreed ($9M)
2. Re-sign Foegele ($3M, just using him as an example since he's being discussed, but I do like the physicality and goal scoring potential)
3. Sign MAF ($1M, should be cheap as he's 40 years old and the reunion angle, no controversy with Yinzer Nation who should be starting at this point and they'll just be happy to see him smiling on the bench, and his stats don't look too bad in comparison to Gus, so it's likely the Wild just suck defensively).
4. Sign all the RFA to ~900k bridge deals. Puusy, Poulin, Bemstrom, POJ, Ty Smith

Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
XXX - Malkin - Puusy
DOC - Poulin - Rakell
Bemstrom - Eller - Foegele
Nieto-Poolparty

Petts - Letang
Graves - Karlsson
POJ - Ludvig
Smith

Jarry
MAF

With a $87.7M cap, this team would have $6.8M to fill the XXX.
One guy I would love to fill XXX that would be reasonable and no, I have no idea what it would take to get him....Marchment.

Big, physical, good defensively, well rounded producer, making $4.5M for 2 years after this one. I think he'd be a great fit next to Malkin regardless, but I think he balances things out if it's Puusy on the other side. He'd be an easy trade at the deadline 2 years from now.

I don't know what the Stars priorities are. Based on ice time, Marchment is on their 3rd line (which is nuts when you look at the Pens third line . Pavs and Duchene are both UFA after this year, but producing a lot. Harley is second in ice time and is a RFA making only $800k this year. Hakanpaa is borderline top 4 in ice time (19min) and only making $1.5M this year and is a UFA. They don't have a whole lot else coming off the books, so if they have to give some of these guys raises, maybe Marchment becomes a cap casualty? Probably wishful thinking and they'll just replace Pavs or Duchene with Marchment in the top 6 or pay somebody to take Suter.

These are the moves I suggested on the main boards for the Penguins retooling. I've gotten a few responses about not great fits because teams like Detroit and New Jersey aren't going to be buying, but it's HFBoards where people fetishize picks and prospects.

Trade 1: Guentzel at 50% to Detroit for Berggren, Buium and a 2024 1st
Trade 2: Pettersson to New Jersey for Bahl, Hameenaho and a 2025 2nd
Trade 3: Smith at 50% and Nedjelkovic to Edmonton for a 2024 2nd and a 2025 3rd

I think the value in all of these is super reasonable. Berggren would step into Guentzel's spot and Bahl would step into Pettersson's spot. You already acquired the Smith replacement yesterday with Bemstrom and Nedjelkovic can be replaced with Hellberg.

I'd imagine the top-9 F and top-4 D would look something like:

Berggren-Crosby-Rust
O'Connor-Malkin-Rakell
Bemstrom-Eller-Puustinen

Bahl-Letang
Graves-Karlsson

These trades would add a 1st, 2 2nds, a 3rd and 2 2nd round prospects (Buium was 36th overall in 2021, Hameenaho was 58th overall in 2023) to their prospect pool. In addition, Berggren and Bahl are only 23 themselves.

Vomiting regarding the Pettersson deal.

Pettersson's not the kind of defenseman that gets a return reflective of his abilities. You could get a 1st rounder back but I don't think you'd get much more on top of that.

That deal is a young NHL defenseman to replace him plus 2 2nds effectively.

Needs more players with a B starting name on LW and R on RW.

Hate the idea of trading Pettersson for anything other than a massive return, which I don't think he'd command. I put him as an equal with prime Orpik and prime Dumo as the most responsible defensive dmen the team's had in the Crosby era.

Bahl kinda sucks tho. Don’t trade him then if all you get is another shitty return from a divisional team.

I would probably do the Pettersson deal. I love Bahl. Hameenaho looked great at the WJC.

I still think Dubas needs to start with asking Rust to waive. I could see NYR being all over him, RW being literally their biggest bugaboo. I could see Fitzgerald wanting Rust big time. I could see Rutherford and Allvin wanting Rust big time. I could see Guerin wanting him. Buffalo, too. Ottawa, too. His reputation is spotless.

Ask him to waive and see where it leads.
