You gotta get prospects like 22 or younger and 1st rounders for Jake. There's no retool on the fly with some 25-26 year old. This team's focus should be on the extended future. You're not gonna get franchise pillars, but you can maybe get a few really good supporting cast pieces to be in place and in their prime once the next crop of top-5 picks start to roll in.

Don't really care what the team gets for Smith. Dude's worthless here, and as an asset tbh. Same goes for Rakell.

The big fish is Jake, Petts can bring in a great return imo, Rust--if he waives--may also bring in some great assets. The rest are varying degrees of meh (Smith, Rakell, Ned) or troublesome (EK and his colossal cap hit/NMC).

RH center w/ experience. Had that ONE year in Ottawa. That buys you a ton of rope in this dino-league.

Could be he rebounds. But even within the context of this dysfunctional team I certainly saw enough to say "meh."

I'll believe it when I see it about Jake being dealt, but man, fingers crossed Dubas does it and manages to land some good pieces.

So, he prefers the current lineup? I understand the point that veterans want a shot at the Cup. But why would we somehow be further away from the Cup if we traded players for younger talent and picks? Right now, we are (arguably) the furthest away from a Stanley Cup than any team in the league. MAYBE the team Karlsson left is worse. Maybe.

And that is WITH Crosby, Karlsson, Letang and Malkin on the roster. That is with Guentzel having a career year, and with very solid goaltending.

These guys cannot be that stupid, thinking trading away meh players is going to kill their "Cup dreams".

Any player who kills penalties is definitely a Mike Sullivan core player.

One team to potentially target is the Stars. They want the upgrade on Suter. If we were willing to take Suter back, I wonder if we could get a solid return. I'm talking Suter, Bourque, 1st. Petts is signed this year and next. Taking Suter makes it pretty easy for them to fit him in and Suter adds to a meager left side for us but he could be valuable as a rental next year to someone. We could even send them a replacement prospect like Puustinen if it means getting a solid center like Bourque back.

Vegas also just put Stone on LTIR. Both Stone and Eichel are on LTIR so they have A LOT of space. Not sure if that carries them to the playoffs, but adding Jake becomes very easy after that. I would also for something like 2024 1st conditional on WCF/SCF, 2025 1st, and a center prospect (they have several, all doing meh in the minors/juniors. Would accept Morozov).

Pettersson+Puustinen for Suter, Bourque, 2024 1st
Guentzel+2024 3rd for 2024 conditional 1st, 2025 1st, Morozov
Nedeljkovic to Edmonton for 2024 2nd

That's a lot of draft capital and space to make moves.

Tanev is a right-shooting defenseman, not left. Most teams are looking for RD, but there will be some teams that miss out on Noah Hanifin that would definitely be in on Pettersson. If we could land someone like Mavrik Bourque and a first by them including someone like Ryan Suter, that would be too good to be true. B

But that is how we get younger. Even if it means accepting older contracts, the other assets could be worth it.

Another point about Pettersson: non-contending teams like Buffalo and Ottawa could be interested in a guy like him, too. Heck, we could offer him around the entire league. Everybody would have interest in him.

Your Vegas deal blows. Not nearly enough. We need much more than that for Guentzel, otherwise we keep him and offer him a contract.

The Oilers reportedly have decided not to pursue a goaltender.

One more point that needs to be made. The reason why Dubas should not touch the core is because the current core is a) not good enough or too old, and b) in need of new blood.

The players Dubas should be targeting are players who CAN join the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Karlsson. A guy like Mavrik Bourque would definitely join that group. Lekkerimaki would be a guy like that. Not sure the Oilers guys are good enough, but that should be the mindset.

We don't know if Pickering will ever join the "core". But at this point, it would be great if he were an NHL regular. Yager has promise. Let's not screw that up.

More is required.

When they say “get younger” I think I want guys that are ready to be in the nhl right now or at the latest battle next training camp to start the year…. I just don’t want some kid in the ECHL whose ceiling is 13th forward/emergency call up.

We don't want ECHL players, we want the best AHLers possible and we already checked off one!!!!:sarcasm:

Both Sully and Dubas are coming off as unlikeable twats. They have this superiority complex that they know everything and everyone else is wrong.

Not great traits to have in your leadership.
