I find it so laughable that this idea that the Pens are going to start getting younger means Sid has to be gone. What a load of crap. There are what, TWO players on this roster under 26? Every journeyman Dubas recalls is either 26 or 25 years old. Hell, even re-signing Guentzel would not necessarily mean we can't get younger. Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson and Guentzel are five players on a 23-man roster. Throw in Jarry, and we still have 17 roster spots to fill. Can we get younger with those 17 spots? YES! But not if we start the process of trading with P.O. Joseph! Then you are literally going backwards.
Now, will guys like Karlsson, Crosby, Malkin and Letang hate this? Maybe. But what they probably hate more is having Vinnie Hinostroza, Colin White and Jansen Harkins filling out the roster.
if we go rebuild, karlson is going to want out too. he's looking for a shot at the cup.

Frankly, I don't really give a shit if Sid, Geno or Letang play elsewhere. As highlighted by recent events, I stopped genuinely caring about that kinda thing when I was like a freshman in highschool and Jagr left. It's a business, these guys are strangers, not my friends. It's no different to me than if an actor I enjoy watching leaves my favorite show or something.

I'd *prefer* if Sid stuck around, but it's not that important to me. Well, I'd *prefer* the team tried to actually pinpoint problems and address them years ago when there was still a chance to make another run or two outta things. But the team had to fall in love with a coach who lucked into back to back Cups and the organization had to grow fat and arrogant based on its past. So here we are, debating whether or not the team would be better off dealing a top-5 player all time.

The downfall of teams like the Kings, Hawks and now Pens is always giving too many guys the "core" tag. The only core guys should be your original lottery picks and pillars of the franchise. You can't get attached to the other guys.

This is definitely a huge, huge problem.

I would hazard a guess that if you asked Sullivan who the core guys are it would raise eyebrows.

i could see it both ways, but it would need to be their choice. imo

There are a lot of teams wants to add LD. Apparently, the Avs, Stars, and Oilers are all in on Tanev. Makes sense because he's a rental but it's quite possible that whoever loses out on him could try to pry Pettersson away from us.

One team to potentially target is the Stars. They want the upgrade on Suter. If we were willing to take Suter back, I wonder if we could get a solid return. I'm talking Suter, Bourque, 1st. Petts is signed this year and next. Taking Suter makes it pretty easy for them to fit him in and Suter adds to a meager left side for us but he could be valuable as a rental next year to someone. We could even send them a replacement prospect like Puustinen if it means getting a solid center like Bourque back.

Vegas also just put Stone on LTIR. Both Stone and Eichel are on LTIR so they have A LOT of space. Not sure if that carries them to the playoffs, but adding Jake becomes very easy after that. I would also for something like 2024 1st conditional on WCF/SCF, 2025 1st, and a center prospect (they have several, all doing meh in the minors/juniors. Would accept Morozov).

Pettersson+Puustinen for Suter, Bourque, 2024 1st
Guentzel+2024 3rd for 2024 conditional 1st, 2025 1st, Morozov
Nedelkovich to Edmonton for 2024 2nd

That's a lot of draft capital and space to make moves.

Oh how awful, did the era's Cup chances at least go out with dignity? ... To shreds, you say. Well, how about the prospect pool? ... To shreds, you say.

Suter has a NMC. I can't see him waiving to leave a contender. But I would make that kind of deal of it were an option.

Today is the anniversary of the Miracle on Ice.

I can count my small blessings and be glad that I haven't heard any of the local morons compare Mike Sullivan and Herb Brooks to each other favorably. I didn't feel like barfing on my shoes today.

Damn, missed that. Good point.

Herb Brooks could beat up Mike Sullivan at any given points in either of their lives.

Absolutely.

So you'll join me with pitchforks later on today when Josh Yohe pens a "Mike Sullivan even more important figure in US hockey than Herb Brooks" article, right?

I feel bad for Sid, he's still playing at an elite level. He deserves to play the rest of his career for a legitimate contender, not trapped under a decaying roster and a cooked coach.
You realize that no one has a gun to his head and can easily leave if he wants in a year... it is baffling to me how many people don't get at this stage of his career that the total scope of his legacy is more important than jumping to chase another Cup... he has NOTHING to prove.

Dubas needs to flip guys for almost NHL ready prospects. That's the only way this is going to work- prospects that are a year or two away at most. They may be able to retool quickly enough while Sid is still clipping along.

I think it’s pretty insulting to Sid, Geno, and Letang that Dubas would consider EK in the core.

He’s been here for 6 months and has been pretty underwhelming.

It's OK. "Core" doesn't mean anything anymore. Jake is core. Rust is core. Carter is core.

We're all core, Dude.

It's almost like no one watches other teams suffer the same fate time and time again. The Bruins were the only team that seemed to "get it".

Meanwhile the Wings were giving NMC to guys like Dan Cleary and his ilk. Way to follow suit, Pens!
