I don't think the offensive prowess of these WB guys moves the needle all that much if at all. Besides, I'm rooting for change, so them losing (IMO anyhow) is a means to an end. Having good numbers in the Ahl doesn't necessarily translate up here. In any case I just think we're mired in mediocrity. Any help down there in the big picture doesn't really change our trajectory TBH.

If you want change then you root for them to trade guys like Jake and Petts for big return. That'll jump start the rebuild/retool in a big way if we hit on the draft picks and prospects we'd likely garner in such a move. Particularly with retention.
Yeah I'm not saying there's saviours in Wilkes who will get us into the playoffs and past a few playoff opponents.
Just saying coaches and managers make clear mistakes and can't be fully trusted by virtue of their station alone.

Are you being intentionally obtuse? Listen, I just stated that Dubas praised Sully. You can interpret that any you want. But he went out of his way to do it. Sullivan isn't going anywhere. I'm not saying if he was upset with Sully he would throw him under the bus. It's likely he wouldn't say anything at all. And time and time again he praises him.

"Went out of his way". I mean this is standard GM-speak.
But you are apparently the ONLY person who can read tea leaves and pig entrails on this site. So please tell us all the lotto numbers during your next animal sacrifice.

The only thing I want to hear from Dubas presser is some form of "Our performance as a team has been wholly unacceptable." If he starts going into platitudes like "We just need to play the right way for 100% of the game, not just 90%" or "The team has battled through real adversity and I'm proud of how they've pushed themselves".....
I'm out. Someone, anyone has to get pissed off at these results. It feels like no one cares at all right now because the team is "competing hard".

Yeah, I dunno if it's an incompetence thing or an arrogance thing, but this team's predictable nature when it comes to making the dumbest possible move (or refusing to make a move) is so tiresome. Extremely unlikable organization, for about half a decade now. Just dogshit.

I'm convinced they're gonna talk about how hard a spot they're in, and all that stuff, then say something stupid like "We're gonna try to make moves to better our team but Jake returning from the IR is gonna be our TDL rental."

This team has somehow found a way to make me almost miss JR.

Sure... there's a 75% chance that whatever he'd do would be stupid. But I'll take that 25% chance over zero.

It's all risk-based and Sullivan, much like his coaching brethren in Steelers headquarters is all about that high floor, low ceiling talent. And that conservative approach leaves you mired in mediocrity, especially since such an approach tends to bring about .500 performance anyway.

Sully would rather not make any changes. Why? let's play a game we did in my college statistics class:

Choice A Risk: Potentially Improves your chances 2%. Decreases your chances 2%
Choice B Risk: Potentially improves your chances 10%. Decreases your chances 5%

Sully is picking A every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I get it and if you are the Av's or Bruins you can say that is a wise approach. If you are a team on the cusp of the playoffs, why wouldn't you take that gamble? The loss factor is inconsequential because missing the Wild Card by 1 point or 10 points is irrelevant.

So we will not be seeing Ty Smith. A person who theoretically could boost the 1 area your team needs a major boost. Same for Puus, who seemed to give the PP some life. Those guys are too much Choice B where things could unravel for these youngsters quickly.

So not only can he not take appropriate risk analysis, he's a shitty coach to boot lol

@Jesse

LeBrun mentioned Smith by name. Moving him for picks and replacing him in the summer with Tyler Bertuzzi would be a solid shake up.
According to LeBrun, Guentzel is part of the core and won’t be moved…if true, Dubas is going to get a bag of pucks back…they have to move Jake whether they want to re-sign him or not…this team needs young players in the worst way

What is this team gonna do with young players?

Ignore them even harder?

Not trading Guentzel is going to prevent me from venting my spleen for like 48 straight hours over the lousy return so for that I'm definitely irritated because I was looking forward to it.

Where did he say this? I only saw his hit on Insider Trading and he only mentioned Smith by name.

Maybe it wasn’t him per se, I didn’t listen, but I reviewed this article about his statements and this quote:

Sportsnet had an interesting twist on the reported off-limits status of core players, leading to speculation that Dubas might keep the top players (including Jake Guentzel) on with the team through the deadline.

I don't think it's the right decision but whatever. If that's the case, he better f***ing have an extension in place by trade deadline
