Agreed, it's the type of trade I'd want to see Dubas make. A decent player that can fit the roster now, a young 1st rounder that's a year or max 2 away from steeping in and a 1st round pick that we can use as a pick or asset

I'd be on board for that but it largely depends on the price of Kakko. All things considered, he isn't worth much. We'll see just how much teams think of his draft pedigree...

That seems underwhelming to me given how late the picks are going to be in the first round, the fact that the goalie market is very much a seller's market, and that Guentzel is being retained at 50%.

OK, so a little bit better than I remembered considering Ned was included in that theoretical deal.
I'd rather get a higher ceiling roster player than Zetterlund, though.

I know Kakko sucks just like I know Puljujarvi sucks. But man did I like his game in the playoffs that year they beat us. 2021? He seemed like a guy that would be effective in the playoffs but look meh in the RS. Maybe not unlike Bertuzzi.

I swear, every time I see Seravalli talk about the Pens, he shows himself more and more to be a Philly homer. Granted, this isn't quite as bad as trying to shame Sid for not showing up to the All-Star Draft, but still.
Trading both Guentzel and Ned for nothing more than a bunch of lottery tickets (and low-chance lottery tickets at that, given that Colorado isn't likely to be drafting outside the bottom third of the round anytime soon) would be worse than anything Hextall did. "Sure, let's give you the best forward available at the deadline and a solid backup in a market starving for goaltenders for a return that has absolutely no guarantee of ever playing in a single NHL game ever". I mean, I suppose it would be better than getting nothing, but there's no way that would be the best offer out there, if Guentzel was made available.
The only way I'd consider a trade like that is if Dubas already had another trade lined up for one of those firsts to bring in a young NHL-ready player/prospect.
I know "two first round picks" sounds good, but we're talking about picks that are going to be in the 20+ range, at best. We get to hope that in five years' time they end up being Connor McMichael, or Shane Pinto, and not end up being Brayden Tracey or John Beecher. Yeah, that's just... great

I’m full pessimist right now. I bet he walks in UFA for free. I don’t think the Pens will trade him. I’m not going off what I would do, I’m going off what I think they will do. They won’t trade him. They will think they can compete even if they are 20 points out in the last game of the season. They will think Jake will take a discount to stay with Sid all the way to the point he signed for 10+ some where else. And the team is gonna never turn a corner again till it’s a full rip it to the studs scorched earth rebuild. Which they won’t do. At least not for a few more years till the writing has been on the wall long enough for it to be carved into stone.

Let’s remember that Puljujarvi is playing on Malkin’s wing right now, Puustinen is the player deserving of that spot and Puljujarvi is in Game 4 with 0pts. Jesse has 0pts in 4 games and his ice time has steadily increased each game. Puustinen got jobbed.
