From 32 Thoughts…

7. Jake Guentzel was another to check on post All-Star. Nothing really to report, just that there’s no panic. Everyone seems comfortable for now, in no rush.

And TSN trade board now has Jake #9 on the trade candidate list lol

Well my thoughts on this is that we are currently looking outside on a playoff spot and he isn't signed yet. If he's available he would be #1 or #2 on the board now.

I think we have a bit before the deadline to see where we are but again he would be an extremely valuable player for any team making the playoffs including us if we are good enough.

Both of those guys pick it up in the playoffs, and their style suits playoff-style hockey better than the regular season. I those both would be good, low-key trades.

I would definitely take Bertuzzi as a cap dump in trade. He definitely turned it up last playoffs.

Imaginary trade scenario we trade Smith to someone.

Toronto needs cap relief to bring in let's say Chris Tanev but Calgary is like we gotta take back cap for Hanafin.

I would gladly trade Smith for a pick take Bertuzzi with a pick attached.

Not 2 1sts like Monahan but something.

Bertuzzi - 1 goals in 27 GP OH Yes I remember posters here shitting their pants when the Pens didn't sign him
People are complaining about Reilly Smith, imagine the scenario (which many people on here were calling for) where Bertuzzi is brought in to replace Guentzel's production.

Shrewd or not, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Doobler does at the TDL. The bar is set sleepily low at Mikael Granlund right now. It's hard (impossible) to do worse than that.

This being under the VERY CLEAR assumption that we ARE a solid playoff team. As is, I don't do it for the Pens but if we trade Jake and don't resign him, I would be okay in pursuing both guys in the offseason.

Bertuzzi-Sid-Rust
Rakell-Malkin-Kakko
DOC-Eller-Smith

Something like that. Or:

Bertuzzi-Sid-Kakko
Rakell-Malkin-Rust
Smith-Eller-DOC

If Bertz and Kakko want to redeem themselves, this would be a good place to do it.

I've been out of the rumors/news for a few weeks, but why won't the Rags resign Kakko?

For guys like Smith and Rakell, their body of work suggests that we are going to see a better version of them for the rest of the season. Unless we can move one and bring in a center and move Geno to wing, I can’t see us making another more than a depth move or two this year.

If we could trade Smith to the Flames and we get Kadri.

Gets them out of 5 more years of 7 million for Kadri.

They flip Smith for a draft pick.

Thoughts?

This Year the Pens are as good as dead and they probably won't make it to the playoffs is how I see it. They are a .500 % baseball winning team. They will have to do a boat load of off season changes to be a better team next year and hope for the best. They also need Yager and Pickering to pan out and move up to the AHL next year.

Kadri in and Smith or Rakell out I would be ok with, not sure the flames would be. Not sure what else if anything we would need to add.

I think the flames would love to move Huberdeau, but they would need to retain at least 2 mil. How bad do they want out? Huberdeau would cost nothing, Kadri would likely cost something.

Kadri's an OK player but his contract is far from acceptable.

And although he is an ass, he's not the "physical" player some people think. Even if he was, Mike Sullivan wouldn't put up with that.
