I wonder if a hockey deal could be made for smith somewhere similar to how the Perron for Hagelin trade went down. If the rumors of him “being unhappy being traded” are even somewhat true get him out of there. I was a little excited when they acquired him but for the sake of making a change I’d see what they can get for him.

Maybe it’s the homerism in me but I don’t feel like the penguins are as bad as their record and play shows. I hope they can turn it around and prove that to me. I don’t wanna go through GenX again.

Not saying it’s untrue but to be fair to Smith- “he didn’t do any pressers once he was traded to Pittsburgh so he probably wasn’t happy” is Rossi/Yohe level “journalism”.

It's enough to watch the games and see his body language, game after game, compared to how he conducted himself in Vegas.
Something is wrong. Doesn't take a genius to see it. And I felt this way before hearing any reports.

I think earlier in the season a blunting for smith trade may have worked for both sides when smith was just begining to cool off and blunting looked like an odd man out, and playing on the 3rd and 4th line, but it looks like blunting has moved up in the lineup and is now on the 1st line.

He would look good on Carolina if he played like he did the past couple years, but could see the Vegas version of smith also fitting into the rangers line up, tamp, the avs (if nuke is not coming back this year), edm second line, the kings if the relationship between the coach and fiala is as broken as some fans make it sound, the wild (for hartman please), Nashville for trenin, Seattle (for burakovsky? who hasn't been the same since going to Seattle)

Edit: nevermind about burakovsky, he's got like 3 more years at 5.5 mil.

FYI, @Andy99, this is why the Hockey News is a joke these days. This would get mocked endlessly on the main boards, yet it was published.

No. Only if there was salary retention on the original trade. There was not.
Unless it's pick heavy, I don't see it. They don't have that high end forward prospect we need or a dman they would give up. Unless it's a quantity for quality trade. There's just others I'd rather trade with.
Over 90 percent of fentanyl seizures occur at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, not on illegal migration routes, so U.S. citizens (who are subject to less scrutiny) when crossing legally are the best smugglers.

As my BP buddy would say "...that we know of..."

It just feels a little hopeless after spending the last 20 minutes or so looking at the penguins roster on cap friendly and seeing“NTC or MNTC” next to pretty much any player and the first round pick being unusable due to Karlsson trade. I think short of getting a Jordan Staal like package for Guentzel or moving Smith for an equal contract/player back not much can happen.

I wonder if Seattle would go for a Smith for Eberle trade… hes a UFA and always seemed to be a penguin killer.

They're not bad aside from a dreadful powerplay and inability to convert 5 on 5 chances

at first i started to puke over the handrail because this would be so sully. but after thinking about this. yager is quite capable defensively. so it could work. (if he gets strong enough to hold up physically.)
Then we'll have a franchise 4th liner that can produce 20-25pts for the Next-Gen era.

I asked Dallas fans awhile back about something similar and they said no. Marchment has really picked up his play and likely won't be moved. They really like Bourque as well. They are pretty set at LW too with Benn and Robertson. So while i love the deal on paper, I don't think it's something Dallas does.
Dallas fans probably said no to Goose for Nisky And Neal.

Wtf do they know?

Amazing how the finishing is failing you for the 3rd year running, Mike!
Could it be...that you... don't have enough quality shooters in the lineup? 🤯 Could it be that...your system isn't generating the right types of chances?

"My experience, certainly, has been that, uh, inevitably the puck goes in the net."

Wrong. Your experience has been that your team has been near or at the bottom of the league in GFAx since 2020-21. Yet, you make no changes, while expecting it to magically flick a switch, game after game.
Yes, Mike. And any season now Tyler Kennedy and Evan Rodrigues will start scoring 40 goals per season when all those chest snipes they take finally start going in.

What a genius coach we have.

Don't really understand Why Rakell is not on the LW with Malkin?

Smith is pretty lazy, and not a good fit for Malkin.
