The most rewarding things in life take blood, sweat and tears to achieve. It isn't supposed to be fun and easy.
What's necessary is necessary. Our 5 Cups were built off of the dark years.

Would you prefer they stay in bubble pretender limbo forever?
Something clearly needs to be done. Pens fans, of all people, should understand this.
I never said something didn't need to be done but, all of you that want to run headlong into a rebuild that CAN'T happen need to relax. There are too many no movement clauses. A Jake trade brings a marginal draft pick I think the stats say 35% to make the NHL. The thirds you get for Smith and Rakell are probably garbage. So sit back and enjoy a worse suck than you have now. If Sid re signs move it down the road even more because they aren't going to to surround him with nobodies. They will be vets.

No reason it needs to be that way with Dubas at the helm. There's few guys I'd trust with a rebuild more.
But if ownership doesn't allow him to burn it down properly? Yeah we're f***ed then.
Tell us how it will be different please. I've given reasons why it will suck. You have added zero reasons it won't besides hope in a GM that hasn't exactly inspired hope as of late.

EK is a 3 or 4 game slide away from going nuclear after a game. He already is giving passive aggressive quotes about knowing what the issue is.

Hes an outsider so the sticktoitivenss brain washing hasn’t set in.
Yeah he's the problem. Hopefully he goes to PP 2 where his "incredible" talent can carry it. Or maybe he will play some D 5 v 5

People act like before Sid the Pens were horrible forever. We were mediocre for like 8 years because the team wasn’t good enough to win but kept trying and then there were, what, 3 years of truly terrible teams?

I get that we tanked at one of the exact best possible times in history, but it’s quicker to tear the bandaid off and go full scorched earth rebuild.

Don’t give me the Buffalo and Phoenix examples either, those have always been badly run organizations and wouldn’t know how to win if you spotted them 3 games and 7 goals in a Cup final.

I’m not a proponent of either way, but the whole “ReMEmbeR tHE bAD yeaRS?!!?!” Crowd acts like watching mediocrity for a decade is better than pure suck for 3 or 4 years.

It is also completely disingenuous to act like the NHL was the same then. There is cap/floor now. Only through complete mismanagement or intentional tanking can you be in the basement for 5 years.

Exactly. People are just too caught up in the short term results to see the bigger picture.
What many are proposing is Minnesota Wild east. Treading water, continually. "Re-tooling on the fly".
That has led to 4 series wins in 22 years.
I'd rather have 5+ years of scorched earth and a proper contending rebound than that garbage.

How many seasons in those 22 years did Minnesota fans feel like they had a legit chance to win it all? It's been consistently hopeless. No one takes them seriously.

YES! FSG Gave Dubas a 7 Year 42 Million $ Contract & then said Under no circumstances you cannot for our Buddy :help::help:

Pens with trades after next year will have more talent in the system to develop with trades of Jake getting back a decnet winger, prospect and number 1 pick. . In the meantime, Letang, Graves, Ludwig, perhaps Petts is a start on D. Sid back for maybe 3 years or so and Poulin, Yager, DOC, Puusitinen, and whoever they get back in trades and or picks developed will be the base after Sid goes. Yes sullivan has to go or change and Dubas can add where needed with cap space but in the end, building the kind of depth and talent can be done.

No. Not this season, although he’s been playing some wing…it’s a fine idea if they had anyone who could be a top six center for them…right now they don’t…if Yager is ready and can handle center in the NHL, then next season, otherwise I dont see anyone available except Lindholm, but they should pay big money to nab him over paying Jake, for example

I disagree. The devil you know over the devil you don't. We know Guentzel can produce under Sullivan. For all we know, Lindholm will be the center version of Karlsson under Sullivan. In fact, Lindholm has already started his decline this season under Huska.

So no thank you.

Also, do we know for certain that Crosby is running the show from behind the scenes? That he wants Guentzel to stay, that he wants Sullivan to coach this team, that he wants this team to be buyers not sellers, etc. etc. etc.?

Does not seem like his style. I could be wrong.

Because Arizona doesn’t want them there any everyone other than Gary Bettman realizes that. It would be a headache to move them. The Pens are stable in that we’ve still got like 19 years left on our arena deal. Granted, it’s already half empty most nights.

At this point I think FSG is most interested in maximizing profitability of Sportsnet.

They now have the means of broadcasting the games and the Pirates games, and they get to tinker with new models. I think quite a few Pittsburghers would cut the cord on cable if they could get Pens/Pirates for $30/Month instead.

If you knew Dubas' background and what motivates him, you wouldn't have to ask that question. Just read his bio. Learn something about the guy you're criticizing.
There's a reason a lot of people were happy he came here, and it's not for what he can do with the team while Crosby's here. The Cups ship has sailed.
He's here for the rebuild. That's why the term is so long.

FSG is just demanding that he milk it a bit before pulling the plug, so that's what he's doing. But you'll notice he isn't throwing 1sts and 2nds away, cuz he's not stupid. He knows a lost cause when he sees one.

Also if could I pay $15 a month never to hear anything about the pirates or Stillers again, I would totally get in on that business model.
