If we do sign Jake, certainly I hope we explore other trades like Rust or Rackell or Smith. But I am very skeptical we will.

I will never understand the desire to see this team to become the Minnesota Wild east.
4 series wins in 22 years. Yeah f*** that.
People get locked into weird patterns with this team. Either defending everything management/coaching does, or buying the hype, or even just assuming that there will always be a storybook ending and that we can go on an Angels-in-the-Outfield style magical run that will get us into the playoffs.

I don't get it myself. I'm ready for a new kind of Penguins hockey, frankly. I'm curious to see what the next era will look like, and I think the rebuild is going to be much more exciting than watching this perpetual sad decline.

The only exciting part of a rebuild is in June on draft day.

Our rebuild is going to end up like the Sabres or Coyotes rebuild. A slow and painful descent into irrelevancy.

Yes, there's not enough of the right type of characters/personalities here for an Angels in the Outfield type run.
Where's the desire? I don't see it. This is just a breeding ground for mediocrity.

We're halfway there already

We aren't a top third team in the league

I don't think any team or fanbase fears us on the schedule

Half the fans in the league probably forgot about the back to backs already, we're over half a decade from when this team was relevant

We've had one year in the last 6 that I'd call us legit contenders, and that was 2020-21. Lost due to goaltending basically.
So yeah, we're already irrelevant basically. Nobody's gonna fear getting us in the playoffs, if we made it.

No reason it needs to be that way with Dubas at the helm. There's few guys I'd trust with a rebuild more.
But if ownership doesn't allow him to burn it down properly? Yeah we're f***ed then.
I like to think that after he was rumored to be handcuffed a bit by Shanahan in Toronto, he wouldn’t go to an organization where he wouldn’t have total and complete control of a rebuild.

Hope I’m right.

My guess is that there's a handshake agreement that they "try" for a little bit longer, and then Kyle is free to rebuild how he sees fit.
FSG seemed very open to giving him proper authority. They are humble about what they don't know on the hockey side.

How do you figure that? Last time Dubas talked about Sully to the press, I got the impression FSG overlords patted him on the head afterwards and fed him a bone.

Yes and no. Pittsburgh is a lot more enticing than those cities to play in, rebuild or not. Also the Coyotes roster is not that bad if you consider the fact that they don't spend money. If we could draft like then and be aggressive on the market, it would not take more than 3-4 seasons in my opinion

Yeah our rebuild will consist of playing in an actual NHL arena with no threat of possible relocation. There’s much bigger factors than a typical rebuild as to why the Coyotes are perpetually irrelevant.

Don't think we're getting a roster player for Jake. A team that trades for him is gonna want to be making a run they won't be moving roster players to do so. They'd move futures.
that's why i can't see us winning the trade, at least in the near term. maybe if all goes well, we might win it 2-3 years down the road.

Sullivan has weeded out or muzzled anybody with a personality, aggressiveness, or creativity. This isn't a bug, it's the design.

Jesse Marshall was on the Locked On Penguins podcast yesterday discussing the PP and he’s a big proponent of the theory that the structure is the problem…sure, he says Dallas plays the same umbrella the Pens do but Hintz takes over and moves in the slot and the rest of the players (mostly younger) move around so that there are options to shoot from everywhere but that the presence of Hintz in the slot, where he will shoot, opens up other lanes…short of having someone who can do that really well and a lot of movement by others, the Pens should move from an umbrella to a 2-1-2, which puts three guys down low…he says the Pens biggest problem w their umbrella is that the half wall and top guys get easily trapped by aggressive PKs these days and they can’t get the puck down low…the change in structure would help that…he puts this on the coaches mostly
there are lots of thing they could try. but for some reason.:deadhorsethey keep doing the same thing.

I guarantee most millionaires would rather live in Phoenix than Pittsburgh.

I'm not even shocked there's a new article about Dubas and then it goes in to compare his first season to Shero and JR's and that they won cups after.

The dumb f*** then completely ignored the fact that after that first year, they both replaced their coaches. Yet the entire article is about how Dubas has made additions to the roster that aren't good. Not a mere mention of the coach that coached them out of the playoffs last year, multiple first round exits, dumped out of the play in round, and on their way to another playoff miss.

Do any of these wankers have any actual guts to write anything worthwhile?

Honestly I’d choose neither. I don’t live to far away from Arizona. I’m in San Diego. Everything is just dirt and dust. And I’m from Pittsburgh region. But if I were a millionaire I’d live in a beach side cottage on the Outter Banks of North Carolina. But that’s not the argument.

If Arizona figures out it’s arena situation they are going to become a go to destination in a few years given weather and taxes though.

Well I think Dubas had genuine respect for Sully, even before FSG relations. Organizations on the outside view him differently than we do.
Maybe what he said were his real feelings.
