What's Dubas gonna do? Team's already f***ed cap-wise. They have no valuable assets other than Jake, who they're *for sure* gonna re-sign to some dipshit contract entirely due to an inability to let go or move on. He's kinda painted himself into a corner imo. He already lucked into being able to do a "here's our trash, one Norris winning defenseman please" trade.
Probably just gonna have to continue to watch this team be aggressively mediocre until Sid decides to hang 'em up. That's just the way it goes with how many guys are signed for multiple years, and with NTCs (or no value).

He did. He signed everybody Sullivan wanted and managed to find a taker for a lame Petry in order to be able to receive the EK gift that fell into his lap.
So here's a fun little tidbit that you won't get from watching from home. It's something I've noticed all season since I'm there a lot.

Rakell's probably not worth much. They're not gonna move Jake because they're dorks. Rust is unmovable. Smith isn't gonna net you anything of note. Petts? I don't know. Doesn't seem like there's really any moves to be made.
He could/should start by firing Sullivan when this team goes into another spiral, but he won't, because Dubas probably f***ing loves Sullivan. Maybe there's a move out there to be made involving POJ--might be able to find a younger "change of scenery" middle-6 forward who has stagnated similarly to POJ. That's probably all this team's got for switching things up.
The team's exactly as mediocre as we all thought it'd be after the dust settled from free agency and the EK trade. Same lame ass coach, same anemic bottom-6, same faces in the top-6 with Smith swapping in for Zucker, which was a wash. /shrug

Adjust your expectations a bit so you can enjoy what's left of the Sid/Geno era cuz there was no fixing half a decade of what Sullivan, JR and Hextall have done to this team in one off-season. No use in being hung up on wins and losses cuz they don't matter, because the pinnacle of what this team's capable of anymore is probably a week-long "thanks for showing up, enjoy golfing" 1st round exit.

He lucked into EK for basically nothing of real value, and other than that, he just kept the same lame roster more or less. We all knew this team was a borderline WC team from miles away. /shrug
