The best PP recently here was last year's PP2. Zucker, Kapanen, Petry, Carter, Rust/Raks. Actual elite skaters willing to crash bang to win pick battles. Not old farts, except for Carter who could at least still skate. Played a simple game.
Biggest difference was how high percentage and organic their passing was. They made it look so easy compared to the 1st unit, which had no flow.

Am I wrong for wanting Josh Anderson here. Is he trash now?
Injury prone, bad defensively, takes a lot of stupid penalties, can't PP1.
5.5M is a lot for a 20 goal, 30 point guy getting top-six minutes.
If we're talking about cap in/cap out with Rakell, I think Garland makes more sense. Better defensively, faster, better 5v5 producer, more durable, will take like 40 fewer PIMs over the course of a year.

I don't think Anderson is like the worst idea in the world or anything, but I think there's better options.
I think it's more likely that Rakell rebounds when he returns than an Anderson experiment working out here. All Rak's probably needs is to be back on L1.

Rakell- .28 goals per game career, .62 points per game career.
Anderson- .26 goals per game career, .43 points per game career.

Anderson adds an element we don’t have. Not sure it’s an element we should be adding at the risk of his contract, but comparing point production is awfully ignorant of other issues.

Not sure a few extra hits is worth the increased cap, bad D and dumb penalties.
Not to mention the lackadaisical play.

Obv cause Rust is out, but if he is out tomorrow, I assume Hino or Zreplaces DOC on 1L, with the other going to L2, and DOC back to L3

While we have these injuries Sullivan should try the 4th line and see what can work best. Hino should stay on line 3, DOC to line 4. We already know what the top lines will be, good time to experiment for the 4th line. Not like Pens are going to improve leaps and bounds anyway.

Rakell deserves some leeway because he was like our best winger last season, and seemingly made any line he was put on click.

He’ll probably still hit 20. If he gets them all in the last 50 games of the season who cares.

Trade Rakell now and you almost assuredly lose the best player in the deal. Also no-one will trade for him now while he's injured.

He's had a shaky 17 game start to the season. Let's not forget he went 28G, 60P last year. This is his first bad stretch since getting traded here and it's likely correlated to his injury. Let him rehab and see how he bounces back when he's healthy.

No interest in Garland unless he comes heavily retained. Dude would become whipping boy here so friggin fast.

MORNING SKATE UPDATES

Good morning from Buffalo. Penguins are set to skate here shortly. I’ll have updates below then.
• Bryan Rust is on the ice for the skate in a regular jersey. Great sign. He’s day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
• Full list of participants: Tristan Jarry, Alex Nedeljkovic, Ryan Graves, Bryan Rust, Ryan Shea, John Ludvig, Dmitri Samorukov, Jansen Harkins
• Nedeljkovic was the first goalie off the ice.
• Rust is staying out there late. Usually means he’s not playing. Mike Sullivan will talk soon.
• Sullivan confirms Nedeljkovic will start. Rust will not play.
• Asked for clarification on Rickard Rakell, whether that was a new injury sustained in his last game or a nagging thing. Sullivan said he believes it was a new injury in his last game.
• Sullivan says he has a “weak spot” for candied yams.

Dubas has to be honest enough to know Jake will not offer a premium player once Sid is gone. As a UFA, move him for a younger bigger LW and a high pick or prospect. I have consider Trenin and a high pick for Jake with 1 million retained. This is a Malkin winger move as maybe he can play better with Geno.. Nashville sees jake and can make a decision on his contract. Pens get cap space to add a RD I kinda like Rutta with a modest pick to solidify RD. A healthy Rakell, and playing him with Sid with smith is a better line for Sid. Plus Sullivan has to play a couple players with some size and bang here. Pens with Graves, Rutta have nice size and Ludwig can play vs the heavier teams vs Shea. POJ moved for a pick.

Saw Corey Perry is being told to “stay away from the team at this time” depending on what the reason behind that is he would look decent on the fourth line… not sure if he still has anything left but maybe a net front presence on the power play as well.

I think Perry's making like $4 million AAV or something silly, so Chicago would have to eat half and the Pens would have to move out some as well, I imagine.

Also, that situation is real sketchy. I'd wait until we know what's going on. Has a real bad feeling to it tbh.

Good god I totally forgot Chicago signed him to that BS contract I was remembering his days at a 800K-1million price tag. But yeah I’m guessing they don’t want him corrupting Bedard or any of their young guys.

A bad feeling involving the Hawks and being told to “stay away from” something? I never.

Yeah, the fact that they said it was an organizational decision and that he's away indefinitely gives bad vibes. Like they know something's about to come to light and they're trying to get out ahead of it with "We kicked him to the curb as soon as we found out!" thing.

Hopefully it's nothing and he was just blasting coke or something.

Whatever the reason is with Perry it can’t be good. Either he’s just done with hockey or something more malfeasant.

That deal is untradable though. He’s not worth 2 million.
