I've been okay with his game this year. Wish he was scoring more goals.
I wish every single player on the roster was scoring more goals.

He's pacing for 30-75-105pt right now though. It's just tough to be too mad at him, ya know?

As great at the top 6 has been, I'm wondering if swapping Rust and Rakell would benefit everyone. I don't think Smith-Malkin would be impacted and having Rust may boost then. Rakell with Sid and Jake may get him going but it could also change a thing or two with how Jake plays.

Addison for a 5th allegedly.
He never made it past the 3rd pairing and my buddy just texted me and said "can't defend for shit". So apparently this isn't that big of a surprise to some of them. Still, a 5th seems awfully cheap. Hell of deal for SJ. Maybe this will stop the crying about the Zucker trade. Once again, an "asset" given away in a Penguins trade doesn't amount to much.

Turning to the Penguins stuff now:

I'm still thinking that POJ out for a 3rd line wing would be a good move for us. I would even explore a deal where it's POJ+DOC for 3RW+7/8/9 dman to help balance rosters and cap. With Rudwedel, Shea, Ludvig, Smith...I'm just not sure how vital it is that we keep POJ. With that, I do believe we need a wing upgrade for the 3rd line. I would even be willing to shell out some draft picks as well. My initial wonder is Dillon Dube from Calgary. POJ+DOC+2025 3rd for him or something. Calgary needs to resign Lindholm next year to a much larger deal and 5 of their 7 dmen are UFAs. Might be nice to have a younger RFA in the mix. With the additions of Coronato and Zary, Dube could be made expendable as no one else in their top 6 will be going anywhere.

Jake-Sid-Rust
Smith-Malkin-Rakell
Zohorna-Eller-Dube
Nieto-Accari-Hinostranza

If Dube can click, that's a much more competent forward group than what we iced Game 1.

People are mentally breaking up with Jake to prepare themselves for the possibility that he goes to free agency and the Pens don't re-sign him, even though he's still the team's best winger and an ideal fit for Crosby.
Some players don't play well and stress out when they're up for a contract. Jake shouldn't be going anywhere even if we decide to rebuild. Just sign him and try to get a great cap friendly contract

Holding your star players accountable? Not really. Sully benching Jake? That would be crazy.
He would be benching our leading scorer though. Jakes a one dimensional player. Benching him won’t change anything besides maybe ruin his confidence.

I'm fine if he's gone if he will come at 10M type money. No thanks.

Are we hating on Jake because he's a UFA? I don't get the Jake hate. He seems to be the new whipping boy around here.

There's more focus on Jake's game because he's an UFA

But I haven't liked Jake's game for the past couple of years. Not defensively responsible, doesn't go to the corners or to the net like he used to. His shot is gone due to the shoulder injury. I view him as a declining asset, but this Franchise mistakenly believes and treats him like he's a cornerstone guy

I'm actually surprised that Addison went for so little, but according to posts on the main board he's way less good than I thought he was. He's apparently a pure powerplay specialist who is actually terrible defensively, not just the "any OFD is bad defensively" meme.

It does make some sense, the dude is crazy undersized (5'11" and 173 lbs) and has been moved up to forward at times for the Wild IIRC. He's a NHLer obviously but I'm really surprised how much of a dud he is in the NHL.

POJ for Zetterlund. Call it in Dubas.

I'd love this if Dubas could pull it off.

Jake’s not getting $10M…that’s for guys age 27 or younger…he’s going to be 30 next season… bet he gets under $8M if he signs for 5-6 years

I think the dude was cooked anyway. Not surprising. Go home and play local and be with your family. Opens up a contract slot for us at the very least.

He was "assigned to WBS" but he was out almost immediately. I'm not sure he even reported to WBS. He didn't suit up in a game or practice as far as I know.

Leafs fans want to unload Bertuzzi like he's nuclear waste. Nylander is playing himself out of Toronto with a godly performance so far.

Guentzel+Rakell (11m) for Nylander(7m) plus Bertuzzi @ 72% (4m)

It gives the Pens first line a kick in the ass, and maybe Bertuzzi clicks with Malkin and Smith. It also gives the Pens a puncher's chance at signing Nylander in the off-season. I'd rather give a player like Nylander 11-12 mil than give Guentzel 10 mil personally.

Rust-Crusby-Nylander
Smith-Malkin-Bertuzzi

Or stack malkin's like and go
Bertuzzi-Crosby-Rust
Smith-Malkin-Nylander

1. Jake isn't getting $10mil. I think he'd resign here for 7-7.5mil x 7yrs. He might get $8-8.5mil on the open market. $10mil is absolutely unrealistic.
2. I'm not even sure that lineup is better than the one we have now. I think Bertuzzi is who he is. I think Rakell is underperforming on the scoresheet but still playing well. He is still having positive impacts away from the puck. I don't believe this to be the case with Bertuzzi based on what I've seen.
3. I would want to see what the contract demands for Jake and Nylander and Bertuzzi are before saying yes to this.
