For shits and giggles, where does Ludvig rank in the Penguins prospects? Does he crack their top-5? The current top-5 is Yager, Pickering, Blomqvist, Puustinen and Poulin, but I imagine Poulin would rise to #3 had the poll been done after the pre-season.

I'd say no but I think you can legitimately debate Puustinen and Ludvig for #5. Which just says how much the Penguins prospect pool sucks, but still
We'll take it!

He checks a lot of boxes in terms of need for the pool too. Sturdy, physical NHL-ready defensive-defenseman.

I think he might legitimately be the 3rd best skater prospect behind Yager and Pickering. Which is pretty pathetic. But also good.

I wouldn't put Ludvig over Poulin because I think Poulin's upside is higher, but it's obviously not a huge difference with Poulin's own struggles in his career so far.

I'd probably put Ludvig as their 4th best skater prospect. Puustinen may be a better AHL player right now but I think Ludvig is more likely to be a successful NHLer than Puustinen.

Not saying he’s trash or anything but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to bet on it I’d predict Poulin isn’t an NHLer, even with his camp. I really don’t like his skating now and and I don’t get why they pidgeonholed him into center ice a few years ago. He’s a winger IMO.

Go look at his draft year tape. It’s like a different guy. He’s so much heavier on his feet now, plays with so much less energy.

It’s not like I think he doesn’t have a shot though. Hope I’m completely wrong.

Poulin is 100% an NHLer.

I'd have him fifth. I think he's more likely to have an impact in the NHL than Puustinen.

1. Yager
2. Pickering
3. Poulin
4. Blomqvist
5. Ludvig

Poulin's immediate potential is a good, two-way third line center, with the possibility of being a second-line center if you surround him with high end offensive talent.

I could see a scenario where he plays 2C for a year or two with Malkin on the wing.

This kind of goes without saying after Harkins and Ludvig, but it's refreshing to see Dubas using the waiver wire to add NHL ready guys in their early-mid-20s who actually have some upside.

A team with as little in the pipeline as we do needs to turn over every stone. Did Hextall do that at all?

I think Friedman might count, but that's the only one off the top of my head.

He was number 1 until I seen his pull-up video now I'm sick we are wasting the roster spot.

But he's likely 5 IMO same as some others have said.

Sorry, but you're flat out wrong.
And you predicate that opinion on what exactly? Poulin has had what five camps now, still hasn't made the team after being taken in the 1st round. Doesn't exactly scream of a guy who's made the most of his numerous opportunities.

What does it say about our farm system that our fifth best prospect is a waiver claim? Nothing good.
Its anemic or out and out nonexistent lately. With Yager, Blomqvist and Pickering I think we at least have three guys there who very likely will be regulars at the NHL level. Under Dubas We're just now starting to build up the ranks.

Really showing how little you understand about prospect developments with these comments.

Talk about a bizarre take.

Poulin was drafted as an 18-year-old in the late first round. Those guys are rarely NHL ready and his 2019-20 season and 2020-21 season were disrupted a bit by the pandemic. Lots of athletes across all sports have had disjointed development because their seasons were either canceled or paused for a lengthy period of time and they couldn't train normally.

Poulin had a solid debut pro season at age 20 with things to clearly work on. He had a good camp last year, but then ran into his mental health challenges.

If Poulin plays all of last season, he may be ready to start this year in the NHL. He missed most of the year, so he'll take half a season to develop at age 22 and be ready to jump in.

I predicate my opinion on the whole picture, not a random assertion that he's been in five camps so he's a bust.

Suppose you illustrate how exactly you arrived at that conclusion. If you're gonna suggest that explain as to the reasons why. Are you referring to Poulin, or the other guys? Also weren't you early in camp suggesting Yager could make the team? As always and you know I like you, but your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Not bizarre in the least, the guy is going on 23 years old and he still isnt a reg at the NHL level. That's a fact. And I'm not yet ready to declare him a bust, but I seriously doubt he'll be much of a player IF or when he might get here.

22 players from Poulin’s draft have played more than 82 games.

Poulin will be expected to make the NHL next year, but he isn’t a make or break player at this point at all.

Given his personal situation, it’s pretty obvious he should get some rope.

He should and I'm sure he will get another year to prove himself. But If he doesn't do something soon then yeah, it's getting a bit late. Even if he does make it (which in any meaningful role I question) he won't be anything special. Serviceable maybe.
