They aren’t able to.. at least Mike Sullivan’s system… been pretty clear since last seasonYou know whats frustrating? The 1st period against Dallas. That showed us this team can play against anyone. But they mailed it in after that. We have yet to see this group put anywhere close to a 60min effort in.

I disagree. The talent is there to win games in spite of him. End of the day the players arent playing for the full game, regardless of the system. They aren’t able to.. at least Mike Sullivan’s system… been pretty clear since last season
I don’t think it’s a choice…we are old lol…Boston plays a very defensive grind it out game, which is less taxingI disagree. The talent is there to win games in spite of him. End of the day the players arent playing for the full game, regardless of the system.
What game were you watching? The Pens dominated posession, put up 20 plus shots, and despite a Hurculean effort from Oettinger, still came out with a 1-0 lead. Don't get me wrong, they were dog shit for the rest of the game, but their first period effort was great. The first period against Dallas wasn’t very good.
I don't know why I feel compelled to share this, but I do.
I had a volunteer job with the Canadian Men's Olympic hockey team in 2010. Most of the guys were extremely nice to be around, particularly MAF, no surprise. I found myself in a box during Canada's first game and Carter was there (along with MAF). Guy was a complete ass hole.
I wasn't thrilled when we acquired him, and when everybody was fawning over him during his first stretch of games here, I couldn't help but route against him because he's such a prick. I was skeptical when we signed him to a multi-year extension and am selfishly glad that we all hate him now :p
I'm not sure I agree at all that a defensive, grinding style is less taxing.I don’t think it’s a choice…we are old lol…Boston plays a very defensive grind it out game, which is less taxing
Boston was only behind the Oilers in GF last year.I don’t think it’s a choice…we are old lol…Boston plays a very defensive grind it out game, which is less taxing
Yeah because that will change the Golden Boy's attitudeCoaching staff house cleaning is the only solution here. The only thing we can do is pray the slide continues. Seriously, sliding to 2-10-0 could be the best thing that happened to this franchise in 5 years for this reason alone
Other teams, maybe. Us, it's tough. Say Malkin goes out and dogs it for 3 straight shifts. What are we going to do? Put Eller or Accari up there and bench Malkin? If Jake shits the bed, who is next up? Big Z gonna start skating with Sid? Not saying there isn't things that can be done but punishment for the player is punishment for the entire team, unfortunately. Everyone has their cozy contracts and spots on the roster. There's just too few alternatives.Everyone knows coaches can’t do anything to ensure our players give it their all.
No one is touching Pinto with a 41 game pole at this point.Other teams, maybe. Us, it's tough. Say Malkin goes out and dogs it for 3 straight shifts. What are we going to do? Things are stale. I tell ya though, if you can trade Guentzel this season and get a solid player back, draft high, and bring in Yager next year - possibly adding three young guns to the roster (ideally with a coach and system that doesn't insist the 3rd and 4th line only be a low event defense only bottom 6), you could start to see a bit more energy and need to fight for a spot.
Maybe snag Pinto somehow. Get lucky and draft Demidov. Bring Yager up for better or for worse.
Jake-Sid-Rust
Smith-Malkin-Demidov
Rakell-Yager-Pinto
Nieto-Accari-Poulin
Something like that, you could maybe put some heat on a guy like Malkin and say - Yager or Pinto are coming for you. On Rust/Jake/Smith - hey, Demidov, Yager, Pinto, Poulin, etc...they're coming for your spots. You could actually see legit competition and the willingness to put forth the effort.
Interesting. All I have to go by was sitting next to him for a few hours and he couldn't have been more of a prick. The players love him. McCann is on record saying he helped shape his game to where he is at now.
The dude bet on Non-NHL sports games. I would trade for him and let him sit in a heart beat. Do you know how many NHL players do the same thing and just are a bit smarter so they don’t get caught? No one is touching Pinto with a 41 game pole at this point.
There's a beautiful irony that a league covered head to toe in gambling ads like a plague victim covered in boils is throwing the book at a dude for non-NHL betting. The dude bet on Non-NHL sports games. Yes but with a 41 game suspension and him holding out for a contract, his value is zero. And the Sens arent just going to dump him for nothing. The dude bet on Non-NHL sports games. Exactly why Dubas should be watching him and the situation like a Hawk. I believe someone said that if he signs after Dec 1st, he can still play this season.Yes but with a 41 game suspension and him holding out for a contract, his value is zero. And the Sens arent just going to dump him for nothing.
I think any leverage he had is now gone and he’s just going to end up signing his QO to play when he can and try to put this behind him.Yes but with a 41 game suspension and him holding out for a contract, his value is zero. And the Sens arent just going to dump him for nothing.
