I think any leverage he had is now gone and he’s just going to end up signing his QO to play when he can and try to put this behind him.

Honestly, it wouldn’t shock me if someone in the Sens organization tipped the league off. He’ll be able to play for the 2nd half of the season and likely will at the lowest price possible. That’s one way to end a contract dispute.
He doesnt have a choice, the Sens have rescinded all offers. Hes shot himself in the foot with this.

Yes...I know. That’s why I said he is no issue to get signed now. I don’t think it was a real issue before. The Sens just royally messed up their cap and literally had nothing left to give him and weren’t willing to pay to get out of Joseph’s contract.

We need more details...
It was 13 years ago and I don't recall our exact conversation. I was sitting with Carter and MAF. MAF couldn't have been any nicer. Was eager to share about his experience at the Olymipcs (he joked to me that he wasn't going to play a single second in the tournament), had lots to say about Pitt, Mario, Sid, etc. Felt like we were friends by the end of the game.

Carter was just a pouty stick in the mud. Didn't want to bother him but obviously tried to make pleasantries sitting next to him for 2+ hours. Every word out of his mouth was smug.

Other teams, maybe. Us, it's tough. Say Malkin goes out and dogs it for 3 straight shifts. What are we going to do? Put Eller or Accari up there and bench Malkin? If Jake shits the bed, who is next up? Big Z gonna start skating with Sid? Not saying there isn't things that can be done but punishment for the player is punishment for the entire team, unfortunately. Everyone has their cozy contracts and spots on the roster. There's just too few alternatives.
If any of the top 6 wingers are dogging it, yes, I'd have no problems putting Z, DOC, Acciari, or anyone else up there for a few shifts, periods, or even games. At least you're trying to fix things instead of just hoping they decide to stop dogging it.

If Crosby, Malkin, Letang, or Karlsson are dogging it to the point you need to demote or bench them, then things are too far gone. They've tuned you out and there's no getting them back.

The million dollar question is does Dubas have the juice to fire Sullivan? He better. I do think Dubas will need to have that talk with Mike. this isn't working if the Pens are under 500 say after 20 games. Not sure what Dubas can do here but he won't make a move on trades ect., until he addresses the coaching. Sullivan at this point is probably indifferent to his here or not here now. Next is what can be done to get the team playing better? Dubas had to unwind the Hextall issues as much as he could. I actually think next year is when he has the flexibility to address the roster and add younger legs and grit to the mix. Lastly trade offers for Jake. He simply is not going to be worth that AAV here with Sid out the door. Pens get a harder style LW and a RD who brings some bang and I still like this team.

That's a really cool picture, man.

I'm from London and have golfed with Carts a couple times and been out with him through mutual friends and through hockey and he's def a good guy to the boys, but I can definitely see where his cockiness and attitude towards people that aren't in the group or "hockey players" could rub people the wrong way.

Sullivan should've been fired years ago, and I'll be cheering the moment he's sent packing. But this team's not a coaching change away from making a deep run or anything. They still lack substantial depth, and they still have a mess in goal. /shrug

Still, though, fire Sullivan yesterday. This shit's awful to watch. I don't care if the team's losing, but let 'em lose by virtue of giving up chances/goals against from being too aggressive as opposed to this slopshit, wannabe structured garbage.
You are right but I still want to think this team can do a momentum rally like we did last 2 coaching changes. Go 3 for 3.

Yeah because that will change the Golden Boy's attitude
What happened the last 2 times we did it? It's time Josey you know it is dude!

Someone might have to correct me but at some point, if he doesn't sign he becomes a UFA.

Actually:

What is a 10.2(c) player?

A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. A player who does not meet the UFA requirements or the Group 2 RFA requirements displayed in the table above, and has been issued a qualifying offer, is designated a 10.2(c) player. The player is only eligible to negotiate and sign a contract with the club that holds their signing rights. They are ineligible to negotiate a contract (offer sheet) with any other club. They are also ineligible for arbitration. If the player does not receive a qualifying offer by June 25th at 5:00pm ET, they immediately become a UFA.

If I read that correctly, Ottawa holds his rights until June 25th 2024. Unless they trade him.

He was qualified, so the Sens would still hold his rights.

Fleury, Carter and Ben Stiller??

I've suggested trading Jake at least twice (Eichel, Tkachuk), so I'm not opposed to the idea.

However, I'm at the point that I'm not trading anybody until I see them under a new coach.

This was something I cared about a lot for what Sullivan was doing to the roster that we might lose the right players under a better coach that Sullivan pushed out for worse fits for what he wants.

At this point it's so far gone I just want him gone regardless of who we have or don't have until it happens.

Carter was known for being a party guy in his younger days iirc. Not surprised if he was a dick back then to anyone not in his inner circle. Probably a bit of a jock back then.

Now that he has kids and is in his late 30s he seems pretty mellow. Most of his grumpiness now seems directed towards the media being critical of his play and while he absolutely does suck now I don't blame him for having a chip on his shoulder over it and not wanting to talk to the media. Guy is a proud athlete who was once a first line quality player and has won cups. No way he's not acutely aware of his own limitations now and annoyed about them.
