To give the specific numbers:

1. Initially, the Penguins are sitting with a $83.255 million cap hit with a 22 man roster.
2. Zohorna goes down and Andovsky comes up, bringing that cap hit to $83.405 million.
3. Nedjelkovic goes on LTIR, increasing their upper limit from their current cap hit $83.405 million to their new limit of $84.905 million.
4. Andovsky goes back down and Zohorna comes back up, decreasing their current cap hit back to the $83.225 million initial number.
5. Hellberg comes up to replace Nedjelkovic, increasing their current cap hit to $84.039 million.
6. That leaves them with $866k in cap space, enough to call up a forward like Hinostroza or White.

If you wouldn't do that Zohorna down and Andovsky up maneuver, your new cap limit with Nedjelkovic on LTIR would be $84.755 million and would have the Penguins at $716k in cap space, which is not enough to call up any additional skater.

Neds to LTIR? The heck happen to him? Ludvig I could understand but I didn't see anything happen to Neds. Could give us a look at Blomqvist though.
Hellburg will be the one recalled.

Ned was apparently injured last night, tried to give it a go at practice today and had to come off.

I’d like to see Acciari up on L3 on the wing. Not permanently, but he seems a bit neutered at center as far as forechecking and hitting goes. Let him run around a bit.

Yea I am sort of over him being the center. He said somewhere in an interview that he can't do the hitting energy thing as much from center because how he plays etc. I also understand that from just watching hockey that if your the center being defensively responsible you play different.

If Jeff Carter MUST be in the lineup, I'd be okay running:

Zohorna-Eller-Accari
Nieto-Carter/DOC-DOC/Carter

And then you heavily shelter the 4th line with reduced minutes.

I'm not too flustered about losing Z for a game, if that is what transpires. It's not like any one player is gonna make a difference tomorrow.
Colorado might beat us by a touchdown. Keep this up and we're looking at being last place in the East in point % soon.
Good work, boys. Just clock in, clock out, and "get ready" for the next one.

Carter should LTIRetire so we can have that cap space.
He's in Phil "Iron Man" Kessel mode. He ain't playing hard enough for any significant injury to occur. To be at risk for an injury, you have to put yourself in a position to be injured. That ain't ol Jeffy Carter these days.

We'd need to get lucky with a blocked shot or something. Whether in practice or in game.

If we can trade Jake and get a decent prospect back that is NHL ready and get a top 5 1st in this draft we are likely in a much better spot next season then if we stick with Sullivan and limp in a wild card or anything similar.

So f***ing Penguins

Can't get one month into the year before cap issues, and injuries, have them shuffling players like the deck chairs on the titanic

Let's see if Jarry can rise to the occasion

God, I hate to say but this is likely the truth even though I think every team in the NHL could say something similar. I also have doubts on getting the top 5 pick unless we win it through the lottery.

Ivan Demidov seems like the exact type of player we are missing at the moment. High octane, high-skill winger. I'd love that prospect to be a soon-to-break-out center as well.

Just what-if'ing here but: Jake+Smith for Pinto+1st. Draft Demidov. Resign Jake next July.

Smith-Sid-Malkin
Jake-Pinto-Demidov
Rakell-Eller-Rust
Nieto-Accari-Zohorna

If Pinto takes the step and Demidov is what he is projected to be...this could be a good Top 9

I don't see any way we pick top 5. We're bad but the underlying numbers are still pretty decent. This team will win enough games to finish somewhere between 10th and 7th. It'll be just like last year and we'll be picking like 14th (or well...I guess San Jose will).

And as much as that would suck, it might be for the best because we figure to be even worse next year with our stars another year older and at least then our pick will be ours to keep.

Right now I'm horrified of the thought of us picking top 10 this year and then leaving next year's pick unprotected. I hope that doesn't happen and don't think it will but it's not completely out of the question with the lottery

Disagree—Pens would be Karlsson hits Jake with a slapper, Sid has cholera, Tanger another stroke. Backup goalie down after two starts? No biggie.

Lol…the Caps played 40 minutes…they have some guys in the lineup though…that’s 20 minutes more than the Pens can play anymore
Yeah and they can shoot.

We had good underlying numbers last year too. 2nd in high danger shots in the league.
Result? 38 goals below expected.
Don't deceive yourself.

If this team keeps sucking this bad Sid might have a mysterious heart injury a la Lemieux in 05-6 and just retire early lol

I'm not saying we will be good, but I think this team is not a bottom feeder bad. It will be mediocre and finish just outside the playoffs and there's an outside chance it gets it together enough to grab the last spot.

Maybe things would prove otherwise with a new coach but with Sully that's the floor/ceiling.

Performance matters.
it percolated ...I was really sad listening to Sid after the game, he seemed totally oblivious to whats wrong with this team, the worst thing he is now defiant and kind of get pissy with the reporters that dare to ask what's wrong...If Sid speaks like taht how could you expect 3rd or 4th liners to have somekind selfreflection and , I don't know I lost any hope they can turn this around, no character that can rally the troups, wrong system, etc...
