Characterizing him as some run of the mill "top 6 forward" we can replace at the drop of a hat is ridiculous. Wait and see what Crosby's linemates look like going forward.

His chemistry and fit in Pittsburgh will be near impossible to replace because his hockey IQ was savant level and he fit well with Crosby and Malkin. But I don’t think the individual talent level will be impossible to replace. 87 and 71 won’t be here forever for him to mesh with.

Jake is good but he is absolutely the type of player more valuable to an already contending team. Type of player you add to an already good roster to be your 3rd-4th gun rather than build around at 29-30 years old.

I agree that he’s not an *essential* player. Pens in 2016 didn’t have him and were better than the 2017 team. Pens absolutely need a star caliber winger now though or 4 lines of scoring depth if they don’t want to tank though.

Yeah I mean they should tank next year. They sucked with Guentzel. The best thing for this team (outside of landing Celebrini) is losing the SJ pick this year because next year is gonna be rough.

Idk if I see a path to being competitive until 2025-2026 and even that’s extremely optimistic. Like you got a top 3 pick that can make an immediate impact; Koivunen, Pono hit in a big way; and you signed a baller FA optimistic.

I think a lot of people are missing that Dubas’s goal is to reload not rebuild. I believe he think Bunting and the C prospect helps us do that next season.
