The Kings need a goalie big time, KD should be all over that situation cause I would think if Calgary was to move Markstrom, they would prefer shipping him East and not to LA.

That’s not what I said. You said irreplaceable. I’m not saying it’ll be easy. His chemistry and fit in Pittsburgh will be near impossible to replace because his hockey IQ was savant level and he fit well with Crosby and Malkin. But I don’t think the individual talent level will be impossible to replace. 87 and 71 won’t be here forever for him to mesh with.

Jake is good but he is absolutely the type of player more valuable to an already contending team. Type of player you add to an already good roster to be your 3rd-4th gun rather than build around at 29-30 years old.
You say this, then say "His chemistry and fit in Pittsburgh will be near impossible to replace". So, it is exceptionally unlikely we replace him. You're talking semantics.

This team is not going to burn it down and cash in lotto picks while the core is here. The org has said that. So they need to try to put together a winner, but they've just handicapped their ability to do that and added nothing of significant value now or later.

There's a reason why every single article on the trade is about how Waddell took Dubas to the cleaners.

Dubas to date is not as good as I hoped. Jake rental was so limiting but man three small left shot players just is not what they need. If Jake signs an extension then Dubas has a deal to add a Blake or Burrow a number 1 or move Jake to the Rangers. Fubas offer Jake a deal and he says no last off season then move him for a much better package.

Yeah I would say so. Just think I’d rather give up pick 8-11 in what looks like a kinda down draft vs fully chasing a top 3 pick in 2025.

Who the hell knows though
There is a less than 0% chance they try to chase a top 3 pick next year. Kyle was hired to give Sid one last run. They'll re-tool in the summer and hopefully fire Sully. Tanking this season and going for it next year si 100% the move.

Oh, gotcha.

I think I would prefer Dubas clearing out what he can today, get as high of a draft pick as possible in the process, then re-tool during the summer best he can.

I, for one, am not a fan of a small, slow old team targeting small, slow prospects.
Who is slow? A scouting report on skating being a weakness isn’t the same. Elias Pettersson is a weak skater, he’s not slow

Dude this is sports. No one is irreplaceable. You’re acting like we moved prime Brady or Jordan. This is not even close to trading 29 y/o Sid or Malkin. This is not even close to trading prime Eichel.

This is like if Jets fans were losing their minds over moving an expiring Ehlers. Guentzel is awesome but he’s not a superstar. We’ll have to agree to disagree.

Trade Eller for another pick/prospect and let the new guy be 3C for the rest of the year.

Who gives a shit? I was wrong with what I expected for Guentzel. That doesn’t make this deal bad.

HFB posters in general are way off in their expectations and valuations. Always has been and always will be. I expected this team to be a playoff team, so I'm certainly no better than anyone else.

It gets more fun when you admit that you don't know shit.

feels like if Bunting had a Swedish name like Hoglander people would be more stoked about this, he’s a better player

You're either mischaracterizing or misunderstanding what I'm saying.

We have limited time with this core, that has a stated objective to win. Guentzel's contributions are irreplaceable for this team, with the time it has left with this core.

Instead if Guentzel we now have Bunting, mediocre futures with warts, and free agency to replace him. Good luck.
