I really, really do want to know what Uncle Jim out in Vancouver was offering compared to one of Dubas's ex-Soo pet rocks and three middling prospects plus a mid round 2nd.
Don’t think they were listening on Willander and Lekkerimaki and didn’t want to deal Lindholm ultimately to get stuff Pgh wanted. Their final offer was probably Hoglander, Ratty and a non first rounder. I would take Carolina’s deal.

Problem with Bunting is he's at his best when he plays on the edge. That's the polar opposite for how Sullivan wants people to play. He wants robots who just "play the right way".

A neutered Bunting isn't nearly as effective as the loose cannon version.
All the more incentive to can him.

Should have got a new coach before trading players.
This was a situation that unfortunately was going to go this way one way or another. I don't think Jake and his ask would have worked and he didn't want to negotiate until after the season and missing the playoffs again would mean he would be open to testing the market. Too many variables.

But I agree, should have fired Sullivan 2 months ago and given the new coach a chance to see how he would do with the roster and better usage. But hopefully at best we end this season on a good note by sucking so hard the ownership seeing more empty seats and losing will prompt them to give Dubas the green light.

Can someone aptly rank these prospects? I like the Fin the best but that's just a preliminary observation.

What are you talking about LOL that was a problematic contract for the canes that we let them out of… no one’s trading for him & that contract read the details of it. It’s a limited no trade attached as well lol
Just like Granlund was a bad contract for us, but now apparently could be a trade piece per Elliotte Friedman. Bunting will have takers at 50% retention next TDL. I don’t even think they should trade Bunting, just stating it’s an option.

It's what Dubas said he was doing all along. These are players that can be ready sooner than later and not completely giving up on the core.

Yes quality was likely given up but it wasn't for quantity it was for bodies that can play now.

He doesn't want prospects that will take 3 years to get up here. It's out of the Crosby era window. If the timeline was 3 years we very likely would of had some better pedigree on the deal.

Reading what some Canes fans said now makes me feel okay ish about the returnee didn't get home run prospects. We got a couple of players that could play potentially next year. We added depth to the potential prospect pool as well.

Reading one poster they mentioned how they hope they sign Guentzel for what it cost.

New rankings probably look like:
1. Brayden Yager
2. Ville Koivunen
3. Owen Pickering
4. Joel Blomqvist
5. Vasili Ponomaryov
6. Sergei Murashov
7. Cruz Lucious
8. Sam Poulin
9. Mikhail Ilyin
10. Emil Pieniniemi

So 6, 7, 9 in Carolina becomes 2, 5, 7 here, and they could potentially be higher. None is better than Yager, but they could end up better than the goalies.

Wheeler has Yager, Pickering, and Blomqvist as 1-2-3 in our system. 4 was Murashov; I guess he's 7 now.
I would agree with those 3 being ranked 1-3 as well. I'd maybe rank Blom higher than Pickering, even if I think Owen is like a Bouwmeester clone.

That is based on potential and current trajectory on development though. Nhl readiness? I think Koivunen is closer to ready than Yager is and Ponomaryov should be a call up for Saturday.

To be fair, as far as I recall what we traded out for rentals in Iginla and Hossa (and Dupuis! Long live Super Duper!), and even Brassard (who wasn't a rental) didn't even collectively end up amounting to much. From that perspective, not too bad. I think we'll hit on one of these prospects, and another will become a useful bottom six piece. I don't know what to think about Bunting at the moment; could be useful, could be a pure Dubas pet rock.

I guess the nice thing about Bunting is that he's at least a different style of forward than what we currently have?

Probably something along those lines yep!

I can understand that people are disappointed with the return considering that the media clowns were speculating about completely different prospects. However I still like the deal.

Ponomarev should instantly be called up and get a chance.

I'm expecting Smith, Eller, Ruhwedel, and Nedelkjovic to go by the deadline. Smith and Eller might bring back a prospect or two, but the rest will be picks. Dubas may flip a pick or two to add a lotto ticket player to WBS since their ranks are so thin.

I think Rakell stays. And I think Acciari stays because I don't think the value is there right now.

When healthy, I think you run:
Rakell - Crosby - Rust
Bunting - Malkin - Puustinen
Poulin - Ponomaryov - DOC
With some combo of Bemstrom, Acciari, Gruden, Puljujarvi and Carter on the fourth line.

Am I crazy or should Mikhail Ilyin not be rated higher than he is in our rankings? Putting up the numbers he has as an 18/19 year old in the KHL is pretty insane.

That kind of production in a high tier league is hard for me to ignore.
I like him and the progression he took.
