Apparently they don’t want to pay Necas next season as he’s due for a large raise, at least that’s the scuttlebutt out of Carolina

Kakko being a 2nd overall pick has the same merit as Poolparty being a 4th overall pick at this point.

Kakko+1st is a pretty weak return tbh. I think they could do better. If they're sending Kakko, who seems to have topped out as a bottom 6 caliber player, I would want a prospect with significant upside in the deal, too. A late 1st doesn't move the needle for me. Kakko+Perrault...maybe.

I know it's a lunacy price to ask, but I still want Othmann even if Kakko is coming back. Kakko is a reclamation project right now IMO, they still need a great asset coming in the deal.

Kakko, Othmann and a 2024 1st for Guentzel is an insane price for the Rangers to pay, but that's what I'd demand.

But that fits relatively well to what the reported price was: Young NHL player, quality prospect, 1st round pick.

If that's the package, I'd be willing to send something else back with them. Could be Nieto, Ty Smith, or a prospect like Plante, or even a 3rd or 4th.

He did 18-22 for 40pts just last year. And he's 23 while being 6'3, 200lbs and I thought he's been a great playoff performer for them. I absolutely take the chance.

We should theoretically get a ton of mid round picks from the rest of our trash that we can use to acquire bottom-6/bottom-pairing players as needed. Yea that’s where I’ve been with this. Get those types as the roster player and hope the prospect(s) are of decent value.

Hoglander+1st would also be an underwhelming return as far as I'm concerned. I'm not opposed to Kakko or Hoglander in the abstract, but considering Guentzel is the premiere piece available at the deadline, I would hope they can get a better return from a contender than "competent player + 1st."
