I literally don't know wtf Dubas is doing. Can someone tell me the plan? I was pissed we traded Jake.. but ok we're sellers this year. Fine. Trading Chad Ruhwedel does nothing. We're not making the playoffs with this roster, esp minus Jake. So WTF are we trying to accomplish? We threw in the towel yesterday and then held onto our assets, for why??
Not defending Dubas, but by the looks/sound of what the market was this deadline they think they can get better returns on those assets in June/July than today

Mike just said at his presser: “I thought we had a spirited practice today” - it was a 25 minute practice after one of the most limp dick performances and losses in the last 10 years. Good lord talk about f***ing mailing it in to collect a check. Wow.

We got a 2nd round pick in the 50s for him. And scratch off tickets that are meant to help us be competitive now.
Competitive now? lol Who cares? Haven't you been watching this team the last couple of seasons? The more they lose now the more they win later!

This is the first time in Sid’s life the team is in a “playoff race” and the GM said “you guys aren’t making the playoffs. I’m gonna punt on this season.” Regardless of what you think of the return, I’d imagine that’s pissing him as much as trading his favorite winger did
we punted on the season. but didn't punt out any players... so we're planning on staying mediocre? Except below mediocre because no Jake. But above bad because 87/71/58/65..

We haven’t been a cup contender. But, we’ve been a playoff team with a chance.

Being a bubble playoff team "with a chance" that doesn't actually contend sucks. This team has been in a steady decline since like 2018, and they never had a legitimate shot of winning the cup in any of the past 4 or 5 seasons for a variety of reasons. It is what it is.

They never had a shot for one major consistent reason: coaching.

That's the crux of the entire problem.

This team thinks they are competitive and is going to make moves to be competitive.

Your rebuild dreams will be dashed when Dubas throws out some of his patented high term low reward contracts like we saw with Jarry and Graves because we will have no cap flexibility to tear it down.

They had a good chance to make the final in 2021 if it wasn't for Jarry

You realize Dubas came out and said that is what he wants to be next year right?

Management said it? or the players piss poor play dictated it? Dubas was far more patient with this collection of misfits longer than he should have been.

My sense of whether Jake wanted to stay here or not is that he and/or his agent thought the Pens would be in playoff contention and the Pens wouldn't trade him. So they didn't discuss extension in the summer or during the season because they figured they could use the pending UFA status to their advantage after the season. Kind of like Geno, Letang, and Rust did.

But his interview talking about finding new restaurants in new places/breaking in new gloves, last sad skate in a Penguin uniform, and that interview with Sportsnet, I think he liked it here and would have stayed. I don't know if getting traded changes that for him or if the Canes go on a deep run maybe he'll realize that's more important to him or that starting somewhere new isn't as hard or scary as he thought or what. But I think he would have stayed.

Right, because they expect better offers heading into next season when the cap goes up and teams have different needs than just 20 games and a playoff run. It’s not that they’re refusing to trade them before next season, it’s that they’re waiting to see if there’s a better market in a few months than there was today.

At the very least if they’re committed to moving those pieces like Dubas claims, the market won’t be worse in a few months but will be better so why not wait?

This trade deadline aptly signifies a turning of the page, despite the dinosaurs. They sold off their best wing. If not you trade FOR guys like Jake, you don't trade guys like Jake.

Players and coaches are why they’re here, but it seems like the team is shocked that they punted on the season. I’m reading a bit Into their play yesterday, what Sully said about not tuning out the noise, and Sid saying he doesn’t know what kind of message Dubas is trying to send them by trading Jake

Who cares if Jake would've stayed? What's the upside? More of the same? Haven't we all been endlessly annoyed at the constant, steep decline for years and the incessant usage of GCRust by this one line team?

What's the good of Jake sticking around? Just to avoid change? Burn it down.

My favorite part of this trade deadline is watching to absolute shit fit this fanbase is throwing. Seeing all those that called for a rebuild realize just exactly what that entails. Witnessing people realize their favorite players aren't worth as much as you actually think they are. Those coming to the realization that the hockey market can be fickle and you don't always get what you want. That sad realization that losing hurts and this franchise has been blessed for sooooo long. The dark days are ahead and they aren't ready. This board, facebook, instagram, it's been a wet dream for schadenfreude.

10/10 deadline. Would watch again. I cannot wait to see more over the summer with Free Agency.

I'd rather clear out the s***. (smith) sooner than later. No reason Ned wasn't dealt. Dude has been great this year. We like Jarry more, because reasons, but regardless GET SOMETHING for that asset. Eller, Acciari.. esp the former had to have some interest. You get rid of these guys and let some kids get a chance NOW to see if they are worth a damn.
