I’m not high on any picks that aren’t a top five 1st rounder because that’s the only thing rebuilding this team.

Carolina is the best drafting team in the league. You think they are giving up anything they value in this trade?

Even getting Morrow would’ve been limp dick.
So then what were you expecting from a Guentzel trade?

When you think about it, if Kris Beech had really turned into the next Ron Francis, that Jágr trade wouldn't have been half bad.
I think after researching it a bit it was a good trade. Not a home run but pretty good. And we weren't going anywhere with the Muppet regardless. So at least we're getting younger and getting some prospects for when we're relevant again in '28. And we only have to hit on one.

you might be able to add that to ours and get that to five pick.

I was expecting them to leverage teams.

Instead just like Jarry they waited to the final minute and got burned.

Jake should have been moved a week plus ago and they should’ve been targeting a piece that either helped them now that was young that we could trade down the line or a 1st and a prospect.

Honestly, I wasn't that high on Morrow myself. I'd rather have Koivunen or Blake. But it's a start, just give it 3-5 years.

I mean, that's the rub when you trade for prospects-- if one hits you're golden. But in order for the prospects to hit, they either need to be absolute diamonds in the rough OR put into the proper position to succeed. I don't have much faith in the later under Dubas or Sullivan so far.

But yeah, if they get a decent top 6 guy out of it or if the Finnish guy explodes and is the next Jari Kurri then it looks way better.

Cope. Just like everything in here today.

Dubas over the last 9 months has completely f***ed up everything he possibly could when it comes to this team.

It’s over. And the worst part is the team thinks it isn’t.
It's been over for years TBTH.

Can’t wait to have a 30 pt guy for Jake Guentzel that is 26 in 5 years when we are just starting our rebuild.
Jake wasn't gonna move the needle so who cares? We missed the playoffs last with him last year, we can miss them again this year without him but get picks in the interim that may matter in'28.

The Jake return was always gonna be mediocre relative to the caliber of player, because Jake apparently dug his heels in and was intent on hitting FA come hell or high water this summer.

Even so, to not get any of a team's top-5 prospects and/or a 1st rounder for Jake seems... Bad. I'm not even talking about a king's ransom or anything. Carolina's 1st is probably gonna be like 28th+. You gotta at least secure a 1st rounder, none of this conditional shit, because you're losing your 1st to SJ--assuming you don't get exceptionally lucky and end up with a top-5 somehow.

Genuinely, I have zero recollection of that happening. I feel like this place would be memeing that quote like crazy if it happened. Maybe it did and I missed it, I barely care enough about this team to put 'em on as background noise anymore.
No, Sid actually said he didn’t want to play for another coach…I don’t know if it was a direct quote but it was summarized as such in an article…I very much remember it…HOG didn’t make it up

We got a 2nd round pick in the 50s for him. And scratch off tickets that are meant to help us be competitive now.

I'm stoked! For '28!

No, it hasn’t.

We haven’t been a cup contender. But, we’ve been a playoff team with a chance.

Dubas fully changed that this year. Just absolute laziness and unimaginative bullshit from him this summer.
We aged out, for you not see that is on you. Be more perceptive. And next year it'll likely get worse. Aging out and all. And I'd rather be a lottery team than a fringe playoff team going nowhere fast.

If they resign Pettersson and keep a top 4 of Petts-Letang, Graves/POJ-EK, then having a top-notch defensive prospect is less important to me, considering the major issues we have up front. So I'm with you that I'd much rather have Koivunen or Blake because I think that is the greater need.

It's tough for people that their goldenboy actually loves their literal Satan who is screwing things up for their goldenboy.

100% agree! And as we know in most cases defensemen take much longer to develop.

Man, without a link this is just "source: trust me bro" Pagnotta shit. I'm not saying it didn't happen, because Sid says stupid bullshit all the time about his teammates, but I'm just gonna assume the "not a direct quote, but summarized as such in an article" is doing some heavy lifting here.

I literally don't know wtf Dubas is doing. Can someone tell me the plan? I was pissed we traded Jake.. but ok we're sellers this year. Fine. Trading Chad Ruhwedel does nothing. We're not making the playoffs with this roster, esp minus Jake. So WTF are we trying to accomplish? We threw in the towel yesterday and then held onto our assets, for why??

Not trading Nedeljkovic doesn’t make sense. Assume just no market, not even with max retention..?
..Nah that can’t be because even Hellberg fetched a conditional pick.

They must want to re-sign him.

This is the first time in Sid’s life the team is in a “playoff race” and the GM said “you guys aren’t making the playoffs. I’m gonna punt on this season.” Regardless of what you think of the return, I’d imagine that’s pissing him as much as trading his favorite winger did

I was not able to follow deadline day happenings today, and I haven't fully listened to Dubas' comments. So I may add more later or later my overall thoughts.

After sleeping on the Guentzel trade and seeing the rest of the moves, I'm at a B-minus for Dubas. I think he should have moved Ned, and as the NJ/San Jose goalie swap trickes in, I think that's a big missed opportunity. I understand not moving Smith - as much as I want him gone - due to the unexpectedly soft market. I think there will be more of an appetite for him in the off-season. But Ned was a moveable asset.

The Hertl trade is stunning, but it really casts the Guentzel trade in a much better light. How do you only get a late first round pick and a prospect for a player with term? I'd much rather have the Guentzel package.

Dubas has a lot of work to do still.

WE WANT HEX-TALL

Dubas has been disastrous for both the present team, and has done next to nothing to set up the Penguins to compete for a cup the next time they have a good team
