See while I like to mock Kyle as well, there's the whole thing of him wanting to fire Babcock and getting permission from Shanahan to do it after a bad start and the Marner situation, but even in that situation - he had to go to Shanahan and get that move approved. In Pittsburgh, he has to go to Ownership to approve a Sullivan firing and that is tough because now you're asking ownership to fire a bloke they themselves extended and made the highest paid coach.

I don't think Kyle's done a bad job considering he had to inherit Sullivan for the foreseeable future.
I think he's absolutely doing a bad job because none of the good matters with this coaching staff. If he fires Sullivan and cleans house in the off-season, I'll reconsider, but man, not trading the other vets like Eller (who had interest!) while we had the chance is a total own-goal.

Trolling aside I didn’t think Dubas did a bad job. Hertl really didn’t get much more than Jake and I prefer the Pens return.
Sharks got what they needed in a Hertl deal, which was a ton of picks and a prospect. I don't think Kyle did a bad job at all with Guentzel. In Hertl's case - he isn't some bloke making it hard to re-sign him.

A key part in Dubas' presser is that they approached Guentzel in the off season and they didn't want to engage in Jake's camp. So really, Guentzel never planned to re-sign with the Penguins at all and Crosby being all sad about it means jack a shit when a bloke doesn't want to stay and has maintained it all season.

And could have actually made more moves because people wanted more of our vets. Why not trade Eller? We are absolutely not in "the playoff race", despite his feverent insistance to the contrary.

I mean, for all of Hextall's faults he made the playoffs and only didn't make them last year by a single game.
How do you know people wanted more of the vets? What about this deadline gave you that impression at all?

I'm with you but, let's hope(not holding out much) that there were no decent deals to be had and they will move some of these guys in the off season. I know we all wanted instant gratification but, hopefully patience pays off. It's not like it really matters at this point of the season.

Hextall sucked shit and was the worst GM this team's ever had. Dubas is a continuation of the directionless management and constant taking a knee to a dipshit coach.

Hextall may never work a GM job again because of how bad he was in Philly and then Pittsburgh. Dubas' first season was pretty much abysmal, and if he didn't have EK fall into his lap for a 1st rounder and a buncha trash, he would have legitimately nothing of note to his resume thus far with the team.

Hoping he does well for the dismantling and rebuilding phase, because the "We're trying super duper hard to win the Cup, yinz. Pinky promise!" phase is bullshit. Nuke the coaching staff, nuke the team, ask Sid and Geno whether they want to retire on a rebuilding team or be traded, and honor their wish. Grow a f***ing spine you losers.

Because it was reported that teams were asking. Eller's having a good year, there was interest, and honestly, why keep him as 3C? Why not move him so we can evaluate what we got or who we have in WB/S?

Seems like people would rather have less now for Eller and Smith than next year just so you can say something happened. That’s mismanagement.

That Hertl deal is f***ing insane. Vegas got Hertl AND two 3rd rounders for a 1st rounder in '25 and their 1st round draft pick in '23 (Edstrom).
and because he's on LTIR they can cap circumvent and just sprinkle him in come playoff time. NHL really needs to change the rules around LTIR, personally I think if you are on LTIR until the end of the regular season you can't play the first round of the playoffs. Total b.s. where teams have star players who magically are 100% ready to go when the playoffs kick off and are peforming at a high level...

This org has been patient since like 2020… come on lol Dubas can’t say he’s trying a fast retool and barely make a move.

See I agree - Eller, Smith, and Ned should have all been moved.

But it depends on how that would have gone as well, it looks like a lot of teams had to retain salary and I am sure the ask for Smith was the same and for Eller as well. Possibly even Ned by some teams, who knows. But I do know a lot of salary retention this TDL over previous years and FSG probably didn't want that - Pens retained on Jake and Petry, so they had 1 more slot.

Wtf so we only made 3 moves? Or did I miss something?

I can't believe they didn't offload Smith.
Probably nothing for him or we had to retain. I would rather(at this point) wait to see if he can put something together and move him in the off season. I like that at least Dumbass didn't retain on anyone.

Why would I expect next year will be any better with the same coaching staff and without Jake? Why would I care about having a veteran 3C shutdown center when we're 8 points and falling out of the playoff race?

It makes no sense to think that next year will be any better with largely the same cast of players minus Jake.

one report means nothing. You castigate hockey media all the time. Why should they trade Eller for a 6th round pick if they can deal him for more in the offseason or next deadline? Same with Smith.

Chud Turdwedel went for a 4th round pick. I think Eller's value was at least a 2nd to a contender looking to add depth but that depth was added by most teams leading into today. I think him being on a list to be moved didn't mean he should be moved or could be with what teams were offering or wanted to offer.

Why do you have any faith they will a) trade him and b) trade him for a better price?

Sometimes, you should cut losses and restock, but hey, you wanna die on the hill of this team, minus Jake, go ahead.
