If they love Sully so much, I sure hope they love losing the rest of their careers.
Ya know, part of me does say that "if that's true, and you don't win, it's on you. Don't glue yourself to Sullivan and then ask out when it doesn't go well"

Hockey players don't talk shit on their coaches in public.

When the heat death of the universe occurs and Mike Sullivan is no longer coach, maybe some atoms will tell us something.
Yeah! They wait until they are in the uber for that.

Please share how that has literally any shred of relevance to this discussion.

Congrats, I have made shitty takes on HFBoards in the past. You caught me.

Not too much relevance, but a quote from 18 months ago holds pretty little weight to anything right now.

18 months ago we hadn’t missed the playoffs for two straight seasons.

When have we heard whispers of discontent with any coach EVER, here? Even with MJ the only evidence we had was "body language" out on the ice. That's... thin. And that guy was a certified moron. I think they are simply ambivalent and comfortable, have at least a certain amount of lasting respect based on the past and don't want to roll the dice at this late date. So do they SHARE in the blame... yes. Do they LOVE the guy? I dunno... at this point it's probably just like going into a job you've had for like 15 years and your boss is just some empty suit that hasn't done anything of note for a while but he doesn't bug you so you just shrug it away.
It's funny how we (fans) give Sid a hard time whenever he goes into "hockey speak" whenever he's asked about team slumps or whether or not he has confidence in the group and accuse him of never calling it like it is, but then when Sid does the same "hockey speak" where he says all the right things about the coach, people suddenly believe Sid 100%.

On the subject of Sullivan, Sid's a creature of habit and so I'm sure he's "okay" with Sullivan where he's not going to go out of his way to get the guy fired. But I think people read into that that Sid's like his staunchest defender and will demand a trade if they dare fire Sullivan.

Only thing to look forward to is Sid racking up points and a top 10 pick.
Maybe the goal is to tank when the next generational talent is available. Like the next Sid or next McDavid. THEN they tank, pick him, and Sid concludes his career the same way Mario did - mentorship and passing the torch.

That does seem to be one of the goals. Look like we’re trying things roster wise but keep the tank linchpins in place to make sure we get worse every year anyway.

The loathing is heavy enough at this point that I'd almost smile if Crosby dropped the double birds on this horse's ass of a team and finished out his career in Colorado or something.

EDIT: lol beaten to it

I feel like Crosby probably is weighing his options on what his future entails if he isn't immediately signed on July 1st.
I think it will be more telling the amount he signs for.

I operate under the assumption it will still be $8.7mil so that more money can be spent elsewhere. Letang and Geno "signed for less". I expect Sid to do the same. But if it comes in at like $10+mil - while he 100% has earned it, it makes me wonder less about his ultimate desire to compete rather than just play and hope.

Pens are finished so i'm hoping he asks for a trade to a contender and signs there at 8.7M. Colorado, hell i'd be ok if it was Florida too.
I agree, would love to see him in one of those teams as they've been my second and third favorite since 2013 draft.

Playoffs would be so much better with Sid being part of the best 1-2C duo again, Sid/Barkov dominating McDraisaitl on this year's finals instead of Sid being on a holiday every may in his final years after carrying a team whose management doesn't deserve him

Crosby being traded would be a dark day for this franchise that they'd never live down. The idea that fans here would want him to be traded is downright insanity.

Imagine saying you wish Lemieux would have been traded in 2002 when the Penguins started to become bad.

Ultimately I care too much about legacy etc. that I wouldn't wanna see it regardless of where his destination was. And besides he would never do it, anyway. If it came down to it he'd just retire.

It's all borne out of frustration and a disgust at the absolute wastefulness and lack of caring being exhibited, here. I'm a huge fan of the guy and he's done so much for Pittsburgh. To repay him with half-measures, platitudes and lip service to wrap up his illustrious career while he's still productive is shitty enough to at least make me smile a little thinking of it as a hypothetical. It's simply a form of catharsis ya know?

It's not insanity, what's insanity is doing what they are doing expecting different results. That's what they are never going to live down. Team is never getting rid of Sullivan. Crosby deserves his last days in glory.
