I think this team's beyond the event horizon as far as trying to escape the trajectory and get one more genuine run outta things. Not that they'd have the brains or spine to ever really try it anymore, those days are long gone.

They'll either A. continue to accept the decline and ever-present aggressive mediocrity behind the bench and throughout the roster while they patient wait for Sid to get his final Olympics before allowing the era to die with his retirement, or B. they'll try to get some kind of value out of guys like Petts and Rust as they begin the tear down piece by piece, finally picking an avenue after years of standing still at a crossroads.

I fully expect A, by orders of magnitude of course. But I'd welcome B. Barely make, barely miss the playoffs, doesn't really matter to anyone but FSG and their pockets. This team signed its death certificate after the 2020 play-in with their decisions (or non-decisions) regarding coaching, the overall approach to roster composition, etc. We've been watching a team with zero self-awareness for years, essentially in the position of a rebuilding team but without any of the benefit that comes with losing badly (prospects worth developing and building around in an attempt to compete again one day).

Frustrating and bleak tbh. But it is what it is. That's the price an organization pays for going all-in for 20 years, and getting four Finals appearances and three Cups outta the era is a success no matter how you evaluate the intricacies. But it's time to turn the page, albeit slowly, with the continued dismantling of the roster imo.

What is Hockey30 and why should it be considered trustworthy?

I checked his stats through most of the year, both sv% and GAA and he was consistently a top something like 5 - 8 goalie. I understand a 90% sv isn't that great by itself, but that is mostly if you are comparing it to say 5+ years back. This year scoring is up. It isn't like previous years where half or close to half the league is posting a sv% at or over 91%. I am not saying Jarry is legendary but he isn't complete trash either.

I'm just saying that most of the goalies on this list aren't available, and the goalies who probably will be available, are further down on this list, which means our goaltending could be much much worse than it is now. If you don't think that's the case that's fine we just see it differently. I'm not a goalie scout haha.

I disagree. This isn't what had to happen; this is what bad management, inept ownership, and moronic coaching brought us to. That's the most frustrating thing. All of this horrible, monotonous, shitty hockey we've had to suffer-- it didn't have to happen.

Lots of self-inflicted wounds from JR through Hextall and now Dubas (with nods to Mario and FSG to boot). But I dunno, I guess I just don't really care anymore. The team doesn't, obviously. :laugh:

-edit- I cared years ago. Now? I dunno. Feels like pissing into the wind. No point, just gonna take away what little enjoyment there is in this team anymore, and there's not much left whatsoever.

Was just skimming through some stats and it’s wild how little offense we got from our core guys in ‘16. 12 goals combined from Sid & Geno. We certainly got a *lot* of secondary scoring but Sid & Geno are still perfectly capable of duplicating that (and more) on a run at this stage of their careers, even with the wingers we have currently.

I actually feel like Drouin would be a pretty good Guentzel-lite type of acquisition, and I wouldn't really hate it if they got him to a similar kind of deal as what Bunting got last year. I like that idea more than Teravainen or DeBrusk.

At the same time, he's also 29 already and I'm not a fan of wanting to gamble on him being able to repeat what he did last year going forward.

Nah. Drouin is in the Duchene camp.
 
Jarry's a whatever goalie, mediocre--a microcosm of the team tbh. Nah, he's not the Jack Johnson or 40 year old Jeff Carter of goalies, some Dan Cloutier or something. But he's extremely unreliable and quite unlikable to be brutally honest. I don't care if his contract is "fair market value" or whatever. Dude sucks, and the sooner he's gone, the better. /shrug

Call it emotionally driven if you want. We're all emotionally driven, we're idiots who toil away screaming into the void on a message board. :laugh:

Yeah unfortunately it isn't exactly easy to find. There's a filter button on the right side of the app:

And then if you scroll all the way down, you can customize how many games you want to filter by. You have to press the blue add button first though before you can filter.
