I think the issue is, a lot of the time, guys are trying to be Lange. Just shut up and call the game.

Also, I drove to Snowshoe to go skiing with my ex-girlfriend and her rich family. Drove down there on my own and had zero service for the final like two hours of the trip. Gorgeous area, but holy shit, some of the surrounding villages were the cartoonish epitome of poverty--cinerblocks and corrugated tin roofs, just buildings entirely caved in on themselves. Unfathomable shit that that's allowed to happen in a country as prosperous as this one.

But they did have a roadkill cookoff happening right when we went on our trip! (Skipped that one. lol)

Sullivan stuff aside... which at this point I'm completely resigned to... they seriously took a look at Bourque's work last year and were like "Yes. More of that, please."
I find that the bolded makes every other discussion about the Penguins irrelevant.

For me, it's like saying, "Putting aside for a minute that my house is completely engulfed in flames, should I change the color of the paint in the living room? I think a fresh coat of paint could really make the house look like new."

Looking at some teams that may have a need for Smith, I could see a few trades like:

-Smith to LA for Gavrikov
-Smith to STL for Leddy
-Smith to VAN for Soucy
-Smith to DAL for Suter

Not exactly a ton of enticing options out there. I probably hate Leddy the least of these suggestions.

WV is funny because the panhandles and the southern part of the state are two different worlds. The northern panhandle is basically a Pittsburgh suburb and in many ways actually uglier and with more problems than the southern bits... though it's getting slowly better. The eastern panhandle might as well be split between Maryland and Virginia. And like you said all of southern WV is bone-achingly gorgeous but very, very poor and heavily exploited.

I don't even know why I'm so defensive of the state. I was born in FL and lived there and OH for the first like 17 years of my life. I don't even live there currently though I have property and a studio there. Thing is about those tar paper shacks you're talking about... they'd give you the Tweety Bird jerseys right off their back if you asked.

You aren't wrong but I can only repeat myself so many times and nothing is going to change anyway. Clearly. I'm at the point where I'm just going to start leaning into the absurdity of it all.

Big difference between Gavirkov and Soucy vs Leddy and Suter lol.

Oh yeah, whenever I stopped for directions (again, no cell service/GPS) they were some of the most helpful, polite folks I've come across in my travels. Of course, I'm from the tri-state area and this place is just full of people who hate each other and themselves, so...

I would give this 100 likes if I could. The acquisition of the greatest offensive D of this generation was offset by this coaching staff. Whats the point of even talking about the 7th iteration of the bottom-6 lol.

The corny phrases were secondary to me. Lange called a clean, informative and unbiased game. He was clearly an extremely devoted Penguins fan but didn't pull his punches when they were playing poorly. I actually understand how his phrases weren't for everyone but that wasn't the appeal at least to me when it came to Lange as the PBP guy. He was just... really good at his job and more than anything a huge advocate of the game and not JUST the team.
It was truly amazing how well Lange knew the opponent(s). Almost as well as he knew the Pens. You can tell he put countless hours in preparing for a game.

Yeah you could tell he had such a passion for his work. He seemed to have an endless well of knowledge for every single player in the league. But in the end it was just... a ton of hard work and professionalism. It was pretty cool getting to grow up listening to him call games. I learned a lot.

Lange knew enough about players to tie it into the game and still be informative as he was entertaining without going full Pierre McGuire. "Doc and Edzo...Tj Oshie wins a lot of corner battles because his dad was a fireman who taught him that work ethic."

Lange in his primes was absolutely one of the best.

I just got back from a week long vacation in the Caribbean.

Florida is a step below that weather wise but absolutely not in terms of living in that shit full time. My god is it unbearable.

That and the level of straight crazy in Florida is fun to watch. And I am allowed to say this because I have family that live there.

And while people love Florida (and rightfully so because some places really are beautiful), but Pittsburgh is usually very well received as one of the best cities to live. (A lot is probably due to affordability but there is a lot of good happening in this city compared to others in the country)

I’ll suffer through the 3/4 months of horrible weather in a city that isn’t ridiculously packed. The homerism may be talking but it would take a major salary increase to get me to leave.

I went to school at the University of Florida. I could have easily stayed there after graduation, and lived in Florida twice while growing up.

But the heat and humidity eight months out of the year simply aren't what I enjoy.

I realize that I am in the vast minority in that but really it was all about the weather for me.

And this will kill those graduating now, but law school was only $3,500 a year when I graduated in the late-80s. Granted, Florida heavily subsidized it's flagship school, so a huge amount less than most others, and because of that it was very competitive to get into. But, it made things a lot easier coming out.

Here's the kinda cool shit I'd do if I was GM.

Sorry to get political, but the idea that people fleeing terrible situations are doing it with bad intentions is so hilariously ignorant that it needs to be condemned and criticized as nothing but propaganda.

Stop watching Fox News. Almost all refugees are fleeing horrendous situations and aren't coming to throw a bomb into your local Walmart.

@Ryder71's town doesn't have a Walmart. Just a Dollar General.
