I'm disappointed they lost Zohorna but this team is still insanely deep at forward even without him. I think you have 6 lines of forwards who can legitimately play in the NHL and not look out of place:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Heinen-Carter-Kapanen
McGinn-Blueger-Archibald
O'Connor-Poehling-Caggiula
Hallander-Poulin-Puustinen

Having Zohorna in addition would be nice, but I still think those are 18 forwards who can play in the NHL right now. I would be much more concerned if they lost a defenseman to waivers than to lose Zohorna to waivers.

I just wish they could have traded Zohorna for a defenseman instead of losing him to waivers. Even after those 18 forwards, you also have guys like Legare, Avondosky and Nylander as well. Who do you have after POJ on the depth chart? You have 9 NHL caliber D, one guy who might be okay in spurts in Ouellet and then nothing.

Does putting like say Carter on IR fix the cap issue or does he have to be on LTIR?

LTIR, and it only “fixes” cap issue until he returns lol
I figure we’ll have legit injuries by November.

looking around the league and lots of teams only have 6 D, like Seattle, Chicago and Minnesota. And the latter 2 have 4 lefties and 2 righties. I think we could get a 6th for Ruhwedel and go with Joseph & Friedman as the #7 & #8.

Realistically what do you think we could have received for big Z?

A 6th round pick?
What do you think we could trade Archibald for? I think you’d hear the other 31 GMs laugh if sleepy called them asking. “Please delete this number from your phone, Ron.”

Agreed! I believe the Pens have used approx. 20 forwards each of the past 2 seasons so this depth looks good plus I'm sure a trade/upgrade will be made at some point.

Not really understanding your point. A poster mentioned that they were upset that we lost Z for nothing and felt it was poor assets mgmt.

My question was in reality what could we have received for Z outside of the money taken back? The answer is nothing really at all.

I’d say you waive Archibald ahead of Z to prevent such poor asset management. Or, maybe don’t sign Archibald on day one of free agency? Maybe don’t overpay every free agent?

I think it sucks to lose Zohorna but also he's 26 and not an established NHL player and not anywhere close to getting top 6 time with us and not really an ideal 4th line player although I like to have a 4th line that can play vs. throw bodies.

I think we can't really say if this is a huge loss until we see what he actually does with an opportunity in Calgary, if he gets it.

It doesn't matter what he does in Calgary, the reality is he was never given a legitimate opportunity in Pittsburgh. I truly hope things fall apart for the franchise this season.

I don't post much, but I read the forum daily, and I have to say, this has to be the most annoying/childish poster Ive ever come across, keeps harping on the same dumb, emotionaly driven crap, all the while making the bords quality lessen dramatically just because you can t read half a page before theres more of the same "Mommy didn't buy me icecream so i hate everything now" type of writing.
Now im sure the mods would have done something if it was within their power, so, maybe we should all come together and ignore this asshat in unison, and then just lett him have his little "Hate rage conversations" all to him self.
Seems like the type of person who whould never admitt beeing wrong or take part in a normal conversation anyway so.

Just an idea..

He must be a teenager.

Riveting quote from one Sam Poulin:
"They want me to play my game. There's probably a reason why I'm here. They like the way I play."

Yes Sam, management employs you because they like your hockey skills I think.

Now a compliment for him. He's been noticeable this camp and I hope he gets a lot of games up with big boys this year. I've been skeptical but he's looking like he could easily contribute to a bottom 6 right now.

Over losing a 26 year old we got for free 2 years ago? Seems a bit silly.

Nah, not just losing Z. The Sully contract, the Carter contract, the status quo that has led to zero enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Hextall is lifeless and the franchise is quickly following suit.

Missing the playoffs would be the best thing to happen to the organization.

Poulin heading down with some confidence, killing it, and coming back around the new year to make an actual impact would do wonders for this team.

Really would be nice for any one prospect to do that.

I think Poulin's mostly up so he can get into more preseason games, but you absolutely have to admit he's looked excellent all training camp and preseason. With Zohorna gone, I think it really opens up opportunities for Poulin going forward.

The 3rd line will have Poulin on it at some point this year and he'll stick IMO.

I hope so. He and Puus have the most chance to impact offensively.

ehh i doubt that. Poulin would have been sent down if Zohorna was still here. He was left up because he was away with family things.

Carter and/or TB will be back friday. Poulin wont see another game. As for call ups I put him third with Puustinen.
