Nah, not just losing Z. The Sully contract, the Carter contract, the status quo that has led to zero enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Hextall is lifeless and the franchise is quickly following suit.

Missing the playoffs would be the best thing to happen to the organization.
Ya you would think after 17 years they would miss them at some point

I'd say winning a Cup this year would be the best thing but I guess we all have our own crazy ideas.

Doesn’t matter how well Smith plays, he’ll be sent down because of the cap…unfortunately the Pens FO has been stupid and now offering POJ in a trade is going to backfire because every team is just waiting for them to waive him…so now they can’t waive him…so probably Friedman now will be waived and picked up and POJ will be a scratched 8th D man…so so stupid

For real, no matter how sour I am about coaching or player development, I always want this team to win the cup, year after year, world without end, amen.
If anyone could tell this team to get bent it's me. They did my boy Big Z dirty.

But end of the day I'll just try to root for a group that's provided more joy from a fans perspective over the last two decades than any other franchise in the sport.

So they're going to send down Smith, waive Friedman and keep POJ as the 8th D? How does that math add up?

HI all, Im just an outsider looking for some info on Smith - Will he make the lineup? what kind of role will he be looking at? any other insights?

I hold him as a "prospect" in my keeper league and need to decide whether to roster him or not.

ehh i doubt that. Poulin would have been sent down if Zohorna was still here. He was left up because he was away with family things.

Carter and/or TB will be back friday. Poulin wont see another game. As for call ups I put him third with Puustinen.

Archibald 13th forward
DOC
Hallander
Poulin/Puustinen

Mm maybe today you're right - although that list is very position and skillset dependent - but the thing about a prediction of "at some point through the season" is you're also looking at predicted development and right now Poulin looks to be on a real steep curve with the highest ceiling of any of that five. I think it's possible he really shakes up that ordering pretty quick.

I dunno about him sticking as I think he might be a centre only which complicates things but I am really intrigued by his progress.

I'm thinking more and more that Smith has to go down initially to save Dmen...

Ruh/POJ as the 6/7 to start.

Friedman they'll hope to get through waivers.

Almost certainly yes

3LD and 2PP - his potential to grow in these areas is a little limited as becoming 2LD requires being a better partner for Petry than Pettersson is, which is unlikely, and the team might be reluctant to change Letang's deployment as PP1 QB, but we usually play 3LD a lot and hey you never know with injuries

The team like him and look set to get rid of his only rival for minutes, so I wouldn't worry about him not getting his barring a catastrophic loss of form

Nah, they won't do that. They'll waive POJ or trade him for whatever scraps teams are willing to pay for him and run with 12 F and 8 D. I'm extremely confident about that.

I'm only concerned that they'll waive Poehling instead of Archibald to get down to 12 F.

I'd be shocked if he waived Poehling.

Yes, it does but just barely…they won’t have enough for call ups…they put themselves in this predicament…they really need a trade, of someone…

I cannot see us running 12F 8D. We run through injuries too often up front to risk that with such an old group...

Archibald is a lock and I don't see them waiving losing Poehling after Big Z...they need him as a C backup.

It'll be a 13F 7D ...just how we get there is the question

As of now I would hold him in a keeper league, he's shown some ok stuff and with our lack of PP QBs he could/will get some opportunity on the 2nd unit.

You can have an emergency call-up at forward if you run with 11 F and 7 D for 1 game. If you have a F injury, you'd just play Friedman or Ruhwedel in a game and then call up someone like Caggiula as an emergency call-up.

I don't really care too much about losing Zoho to waivers, or POJ in a trade/waivers. It's questionable asset management, but you're looking at like 4th rounders for either of these guys, probably. It's not like Hextall's missing out on prime assets or anything.

Again, with Big Z getting scooped they require Poehling around for Center help. They obviously love Archibald so you're about all but guaranteed at 13F.

The flip side becomes the D. Hextall surely wants to minimize losing them. The only way is to send Smith down first and only waive one guy they think is least attractive. Likely to them it's Friedman.

I don't see how you waive Poehling and completely lose both your Center reserves. That ain't happening.

I also believe you were one of the "Big Z has no chance of being claimed" group. So your expertise is under scrutiny and you're on thin ice bucco

Are they starting late this year? Mid October seems late.
Not even bothering with pre-season and it seems like an extended pre-season.
