I get your point but you can’t say 9 years yet. You have no idea how the 2019 and after drafts will turn out. Even 2018 could still produce with hallander and Addison (albeit for another team)

This is a very good point in general. I mean, hell, we're not 100% about what the 2014 draft is going to look like in terms of the players. Kapanen could be a very established top sixer or heading out the league in two years, and both Lafferty and Angello could look established or be completely out in this time.

That said, I think the odds of one of our draftees turning out dramatically better than Kapanen is now are slim. From that perspective, I doubt StK's point is going to alter much.

Re: drafting

I've got tabs open for the entirety of the NHL drafts from 2015 to 2006. Gonna attempt to do a "study" on probabilities. 2015, to me, is the closest year where we can say they've stopped developing. Reason being they had to have been 18 by Sept 15 2015. Now the youngest player in that draft is 25 years of age.

Pens:

If Dyck & Bussi don't open a nightclub for strapping young men in a more louche part of town, it would be a crying shame. Hanus almost.

More to the point -

That blue line is ouch. Interesting to see Maniscalco on the top pairing. I'd written him off but the raw traits are there. I'm intrigued that Houde, Ortiz, and Ansons are where they are too, and didn't even realise Kyle Olson was there.

It sucks Legare kinda fell off as a prospect, but he may be able to carve himself out a future as a depth agitator. Not confident he'll ever make it though with his skating.

I bet Hallander is this year's O'Connor. He'll show he's NHL ready by February, but will just be stuck in a numbers game exactly like O'Connor.

When did Legare fall off? He literal just had his rookie pro season. Since when cant players have a year to adjust before being a bust.

Arguably he hasn't been keeping up with the flow ever since getting drafted. It's hard to judge a guy who was drafted on a strong team but played for weak teams, but his Q numbers fell year on year. Rocky first pro years happen, but when it happens for a guy already maybe stagnating and with multiple healthy scratches, it's got to lower the forecast.

Although i guess I still have enough faith in him that if his all round game is enough to get onto NHL ice, his scoring game can be enough that'll he be more than a depth agitator.

Ehh he is 24. He is still a long shot at making it to the NHL. Him being a great AHL player wouldnt be bad tho. They need some d in the AHL too.
I have seen very little Swoyer discussion other than by @Randy Butternubs
Not saying he will or will not become an NHL player, but I think he will be more on people’s radar after today’s game.
