If this team goes out and pays 30some year old ROR like 6M to play on the third line I'm done for a while.

Based on the names Friedman listed - that's exactly what I'd expect.

Frankly there's hardly any front offices in this league that do anything big or bold at all. Bunch of unimaginative pukes.

That Calgary/Florida swap was the biggest I've seen in a decade.

Fully expect them to analytically pick some washed goalie who will ultimately fail because of some recent inflated numbers and some overpriced third line piece while completely whiffing on our crappy blueline and crappy coach.

I know you are a big fan, I rarely watched him until these play offs and he kind of looked meh, for that money...not sure
Definitely not worth and not going to get $10M lol or even $9…I watched him with Sharks and he was very good and didn’t seem like he fit with NJ…he’s worth $7-$8M per imo…there will be demand for his services as a UFA but I seriously doubt he gets much more than $8M

Pretty much

I would prefer ROR, but no way he signs here at any price

Put that money into barbashev... Hell, let zucker walk. Barbie can bring the sorta "pens level of grit" that zook sometimes brings.

Not sure he can REALLY put up the same numbers, but he can bring an element team needs. Energy.
If he can provide 30 points and is deployed as a defensive specialist and doesn't leak goals I am good with that.

Granlund/Malkin/Rust is seriously a thing people would be content with heading into next year.

Geez man. Really counting on that "bounceback year" from Rust, I guess. A BIG one, at that.
I don't think I am content with it. Its more being realistic and attempting to fix what I think a GM can more easily do.

I'd have an issue adding him. He stunk this year in the regular season and had an okay playoff and is over 30. Why are we adding more old talent up front?
We've discussed this. ROR has had one underwhelming half season in over a decade last year, which promptly turned around once he was dealt to Toronto and used in exactly the same role he would be here. Characterizing his playoffs as "okay" is misrepresentation, to put it very diplomatically.

We'd be adding him because his track record at both ends of the ice is as consistent as it gets, he definitively fills a role we've been trying to fill for years without success, and he's versatile enough to sub in at a high level for top 6 C or LW if/when they get injured or we could use a different look.

As 3C? or 2LW?
Either. Likely both.

And probably add 2C to his duties at certain points too.

Unlike Granlund, he can actually fill all these roles well.

I mean, compared to Granlund, just about anything is going to come out smelling like roses

In a vacuum, yeah, I think $7M makes sense for a player like him. I just don't know if it makes sense for the Pens to spend $7M on a 3C when they have such glaring holes at 2LW and 1G. At 2LW, I don't know how much wing he's played and how he looks there.

I'm not saying 'no', it's just hard for me to envision how the roster shakes out with him here. I think there's most likely a contending team who could use a 1C or 2C where it just makes more sense for him.

I listened to nearly every hockey podcast available yesterday due to the Coyotes situation. I believe it was Johnston said it’s assumed ROR is going to sign to go back to St. Louis. I don’t know it he is just postulating or knows some insider chit chat. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that.

There may well be a spot that makes more sense for ROR. But if he were open to coming here for 6-6.5 mil, I'm jumping at it.

Trade Jake for a 1rst and prospect.

Then sign bertuzzi.

Get some assets and change the makeup of the team
ROR and Bertuzzi would've been the perfect 1-2 deadline punch for the Pens, but Hextall had no sack.

Not sure how ROR and Bertuzzi solves our goaltending and Brian Dumo getting 20+ a night.

Perfect 1-2 punch at the deadline would’ve been firing Sully.

I'll be surprised if he signs for less than $7M somewhere besides St. Louis or Toronto (if they end up moving some money around). I'll leave it at that.

Skip ROR. Bertuzzi brings something we don't have and Jake brings back assets to help fix goaltending and D.

Will you wait with the rebuild until Crosby, Malkin and Letang retire?

I mean they won everything, why not start now and have them as mentors?

Would this be disrespectful to them?
