Without Granlund being force fed 3 minutes of PP time in Nashville the dude doesn’t clear 40 points.
That's fair. Prob more in the 6.5-7 mil range.Ryan O'Reilly isn't going to sign for $5M lol. Certainly not with a team that he has no previous connection to.
I’d just keep Granlund if you can’t trade him, which shouldn’t be hard to do if you don’t mind taking a loss on that 2nd we gave up. Right now he’s our 6th best forward.
He’s a top 6 player on many, if not a majority, of teams and paid what you’d expect. Hynes would probably love him back if that’s even allowed.
Personally I’m in favor of just running 3 O-minded lines and bumping Granlund up when Sid or Geno are out, which, even in a healthy season, might be 15-20 games missed for both.
Give that 1st unit a little less than the 95 seconds they typically get too, Granlund will get his points on the 2nd unit with 45-55 seconds.
Honest question, has Sully ever moved a player to a different role from where he originally put them? I feel like since he shoved him into a bottom 6 role, he's going to stay there for bad or for worse because that's where Mike Sullivan says he goes.I can see this if they don't bring back Zucker, or find a replacement for him in FA. They just slide Granlund into the top 6 line blender.

I gotta disagree. Top four LD is honestly my biggest need after goaltending for this roster.
At least it would FINALLY be on a player who can actually do something, thoughSigning a 32 Ryan O’Reilly to a five year deal seems such a Penguins things to do. Luckily, he won’t come here.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him go over $7M, depending on the term. Unless Bergeron would consider leaving Boston (which I doubt), he's easily the best C available this year and one of the best UFA period. That's fair. Prob more in the 6.5-7 mil range.
And he'll be worth it.
I agree, but if they go the trade route to fill some of the other holes, I think POJ or Smith are probably involved.I think Seal and I view this much differently than you.
RD:
Letang
Rutta
Petry
LD:
POJ
Petts
Smith
I'd welcome Ruh and Friedman back as the spares. Or bring in a vet LD for $1M. That defense is what it'll be unless you are severely altering some roles.
The defense got the makeover last offseason. It's time to put the money to bottom 6 and goalies now. And to me, the defense is more about the structure vs the players themselves. The forwards have to help out and they don't
Pretty muchIf we trade a LD we need a top 4 LD added.
Really want to strengthen the 3C since we use that line as full shutdown.
Barbashev is my #1 choice. We can sell him on top 6 production I think and giving him a lot of money.
RoR is a two way guy but I don't see him coming here.
I would like another top 6 player but maybe if Granlund could play beside Malkin + 1 it would be cool to see.
I liked Zucker but that's a buy high contract. Since he came here extremely injury proned.
.... Don't harsh my vibe, broWhy waste energy on grit when the coach actively hates those kinds of players?
Since it looks like Meier is likely going to market, wouldn’t it be nice to see…Granlund/Malkin/Rust is seriously a thing people would be content with heading into next year.
Geez man. Really counting on that "bounceback year" from Rust, I guess. A BIG one, at that.

Meier-Geno-Rust?
Yeah, it's not that I don't view the left side as weaker, it's just that I view 1G and the bottom 6 as a MUCH larger issue. If you get a 1G and 3 bottom 6 players and you can still fit in a top 4 LD and you have the assets to do so...great, do it. But again, any reasonable person that watch more than 5 minutes of last season can clearly see the bottom 6 needs a major overhaul and that a starter is a significant need. I'm not quite sure what to tell people if they think different. Some people think blue is red. It's not but...carry on.I think Seal and I view this much differently than you.

In the spirit of additional discussion though, it seems like Calgary fans want to trade Hanifin. At just shy of $5mil, I wouldn't be the worst candidate if you wanted to bring in a LD to put with Letang. Calgary wants to shed cap. Wonder if you could make them an offer of like POJ, Poulin, and a draft pick?
The Dumo+POJ money covers Hanifin.
Hanifin-Letang
Pettersson-Petry
Smith-Rutta
Hard to complain about that really.
Very possible. I'm just saying that at the price tag I listed, we should have no issues about adding him.I wouldn't be surprised to see him go over $7M, depending on the term. Top C's last year were Kadri ($7Mx7) and Giroux ($6.5Mx3). Kadri had an incredible contract year which probably inflated his number a bit, but other than that, I think ROR is a fair bit better than both (and a few years younger than Giroux).
In what world do we only need 1 bottom pairing defenseman?
