From the Trade board
Jake+14ov+CDS for Hellebuyck+Kyle Connor+5th+7th. I do this personally.

If we didn't have Granlund, this would be theoretically doable. With him taking $5mil, probably not. Not ensure sure a buyout helps all that much.

You'd need Zucker at like $4mil and Bertz in the 5's.
That’s why I said Granlund -> moon.

Probably the first priority for the new GM, and honestly, not likely that hard to do. He isn’t old and doesn’t have a lot of term left.

Any team looking for a 2C could use him.

Didn’t I read a buyout gets us back $4M?

I don't think it will be easy to move Granlund at all. No team looking for a 2C is going to find a replacement-level 2C at 2.5x the proper cap hit attractive. If Granlund is your 2C, you suck. If he is your 3C, he is miscast there too.

He is Hextall's Jack Johnson

That Granlund trade still remains one of the strangest moves I've ever seen simply because of the fact what he is, what we needed, and what the coach insisted that player we acquired do.

It's like if we were looking for a new enforcer so Hextall decides to go out and acquire Jonathan Drouin to fill that role and Sullivan insists on playing him in that role.

Hextall and Sullivan trying to out do the other guy in who can look the dumbest with that acquisition.

I really hope we get a GM who makes a bunch of great moves and then we see Sullivan play like Chad Ruhwedel and Rust over their head regardless.

I don't think Guentzel or Kyle Connor are going anywhere.

And without a GM , not sure what Pens have planned with the 14OA. Time is ticking.

I don’t think Jake is. I could see Winnipeg going scorched earth. Connor is probably the least likely of their group to be traded tho. Imagine Ehlers and Schief are gone. Probably Wheeler too.

I think they hold onto Ehlers and Connor. They are still young players.

Wheeler and Scheifele are gone. They both only have one year remaining and I don't think the team wants to resign them because of their age. Thus this offseason is the time to move them.

There is a part of me that thinks they may buyout Wheeler because he holds such a strong NTC. He submits a 5 team list. And they would then spread the cap charge over two seasons. But they could also trade him with 33% retention and achieve the same cap charge but for only one season. But he has to accept the trade. Wheeler has always been a sort of a malcontent, and I can see him holding fast on trades in hopes of getting bought out and then being able to negotiate with the team that he wants. I think he goes to someone like Tampa or Colorado on low money 1 year deal to try and win a cup.

Scheifele has a lot less control, only a 10 team no trade list. They can easily trade him at his current contract (6.125AAV) and get back decent prospects. And that team could sign him to an extension. Colorado makes a ton of sense here with Landeskog out for the 23-24 season and maybe done for the rest of his career.

I dont see Scheifele going unless they go full scorched earth. If they trade him they have no top 6 centers of note.

I don't see an environment where they can afford not to trade Scheifele with how Bowness came out at the end of the season.

Then again it's Chevy. The dude who somehow has an infinite contract while doing nothing.

It's the kind of trade that gets you fired. And low and behold, it did. AGM Chris Pryor pushed for him and was shown the door.

All kidding aside, if we could get Drouin here on a $1mil x 1yr, I would take that chance. I think he's primed for a rebound with a fresh start.

I don't hate the team/roster that they've cultivated over the years with what they have. They've often the victim of the "draft purgatory" and "sucking at the wrong time". They finally get a high pick and instead of Matthews, you get Laine. They've made good selections in the middle grounds of the 1st round though - Trouba, Ehlers, Connor, etc but they've lacked that game-breaking franchise player forever. And they ain't getting any closer in the draft this year either.

Winnipeg has just been one of the most overrated teams for 6-7 years.

I mean, okay? They went the ECF in 18, and have been 1st round or out of playoffs since. They have a decent roster.

Who is "overrating" them?

I don't think the GM is gonna come in and strong arm a dramatically different pick than anything the scouts already have in mind tbh.
