I think Meier is gonna stay in NJ, and if he heads to FA, he's instantly head and shoulders above the other forwards available, so you're looking at a bidding war with an absurd contract to follow.

It's a bit incorrect to lump Drouin's off-ice issues in with the kinda baggage Kane's lugging around too, imo.
Meier...
Possible/probable, but something to at least poke around.

Drouin...
Point is we need to take chances on these high talent guys. We should have been all over Angello, Shattenkirk, Kane, etc. Anyhow...

Drouin, being French, is in the worst possible place to play with the Habs. Penguins do have expectations, but is a small market so at least he gets that. Also, fellow frenchman Kris Letang can take him under his wing.

So he really wants a Cup and does not want to be part of a team that needs a massive rebuild? …boy is he gonna be happy in Pittsburgh lol
Lol...Colorado may go after him? Toronto (if they can dump Murray)? Depending.

I do agree that Penguins won't be at the top of his list :\.

Sure woulda been nice to have Klim kostin and Oskar sundqvist on our 4th line…
I saw the boxscore of the Oilers-LA game and came straight to this thread with absolute certainty that we would see some ridiculous comment about Kostin.

You did not disappoint.

If you think that’s ridiculous you’ve got a very low threshold.

Nothing ridiculous about it. Sundqivst is exactly the type of player we needed in 2018 and we moved him for Reaves and the pick with which Kostin was taken.

Atrocious deal that was criticized at the time and should be criticized now.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Nylander isn't in permanent scratch territory by Christmas.

I don't really give a shit about bottom-6 guys and believe you can pretty much throw anybody out there on the 4th line especially as long as they're not a dramatic liability, so I would be fine running a WBS/younger bottom-6. I just don't think that's how the coaching staff (or FO) is gonna see it, whoever they end up being. NHL coaches and FO folks can't help but keep the roster stocked to the gills with "veteran experience" and all that bullshit--and pay a pretty penny to do so.
The bottom six matters. Did you bit watch any of the Pens games last year?

Sundqvist was worse for us than Bleuger. He didn't break out until two seasons after and still, is really only a 4th round talent. I mean, I'd love to have him back, but in 2018, Sundqvist was about as relevant as Hallander is now. "Irr"

We also had Zach Lauzon pegged as a 1st round talent. As JR said, they would have taken him with the 1st but used the 2nd 22 slots later. So any clamoring for Kostin is just straight-up stupid, moronic shit. Lets not forget that he's been dog shit in the league until just this year. So let's not pretend we missed out on a blue chipper that we wouldn't have taken anyway. May as well bitch about the 2014 draft while we're at it taking Kapanen and not Pasternak.

I doubt it. He's going to be cheap and he had flashes of being a good bottom 6 winger. Only makes sense to move him in a package for a better player.

Who are some of the players the Pens are trying to target and what sort of players are they looking for?

Concerning Drouin, i was thinking the same thing at the deadline, being a UFA at the end of the season, he sure does have the skill set and potential to turn his career around playing with Sid or Geno next season. I'd give him 1 yr x 1M$.

A good defensive 3rd line centre. A top 6 winger with some jam to his game. A starting goalie who wont be injured or wet the bed at the worst possible time.

I would have liked the Penguins to have traded for Kostin and Tolvanen this year, sure. But for every 1 of those guys that hits and succeeds, you have 10 who don’t.

Anyone here remember Zach Boychuk?

Sundqvist played less than 30 games and was traded at 22.

This should say all it needs to about JR.

And was largely irrelevant in those 30 games. I mean, hey, I'm glad he blossomed but let's not pretend he was on the cusp of a breakout with us.

Lauzon was fine, his career was derailed by several major concussions. That's not on JR. Pretty bad take.
